포트만은 팬으로부터 새 앨범을 칭찬하는 메시지를 받고 나서야 자신의 이름으로 'Orca'라는 AI 생성 앨범이 스포티파이, 아이튠즈 등에 유통되고 있다는 사실을 알게 됐다.

포트만에게 이 가짜 앨범 사건은 "매우 비열한 일격"이었다.

특히 그녀가 10년 만에 첫 솔로 앨범을 작업하고 있는 상황에서 말이다.

진짜 앨범과 달리 AI 생성 콘텐츠는 1만 파운드 이상의 투자 없이도 뮤지션, 프로듀서, 발매, 홍보 등의 과정을 거치지 않고 만들어진다.

문제는 이 ‘가짜 음악’들이 유튜브, 스포티파이, 애플뮤직 같은 대형 플랫폼에 별다른 검증 절차 없이 유통되고 있다는 점이다.

스포티파이 측은 "같은 이름을 가진 다른 아티스트의 프로필에 앨범이 잘못 추가된 것으로, 신고 후 삭제했다"라고 해명했다. 하지만 이는 근본적 해결책이 아니다.

Emily Portman은 해당 앨범이 본인의 이미지와 커리어에 심각한 손상을 입혔다고 주장했으며, "AI가 창작에 쓰이는 것 자체가 문제가 아니라, AI가 사람인 척하는 것이 문제"라고 지적했다.
