#ghost preg

The nurse at reception invited him to come in and go to Exam Room 2 and assured him the doctor would be with him shortly. He complied and tried getting comfortable, sitting in one of the provided chairs instead of sitting up on the exam table. He waited another couple minutes before the doctor floated in. Camilo jumped up so quick, he knocked over the chair he was sitting in. He crossed himself three times. “¡Jesucristo! Stay back!” Reid's eyes widened but he didn’t seem phased by this reaction. “You can calm down. I’m not a ghost, lad.” “Yeah, okay, you’re fucking floating!” Camilo said. “I am?” Reid looked down then blinked. “Oh! Fascinating…” He pulled out his phone from his pocket and started recording. “Encounter 104, correction. Ability Gifted: Levitation.” “If you didn’t know you were floating, why would you tell me you’re not a ghost?” Camilo asked still quaking in the corner. “I figured it was because of how incredibly pale I am,” Reid said as he put away his phone. He grabbed the door frame and pulled himself down to the floor. “What I get for being a ginger and a Scandinavian…” “…That’s a Scandinavian accent?” Camilo asked. “Scottish, but historically, aye,” Reid said. “My mum’s line traces way back to the Vikings. My father is straight Norwegian.” Camilo picked up the chair he’d knocked over. “So… What was that? Why were you floating?” “Sometimes when I encounter spectres, they’ll leave me gifts,” Reid said. “Today’s encounter left me this ability to levitate.” “…A ghost is making you float right now?” Camilo said. “Well, yes, but it’s not like they’re carrying me or something…” Reid looked down only to see he was once again a couple inches off the ground. “I just have the ability now.” Camilo looked down and pointed. “Can I…um…” Reid shrugged. “Sure.” Camilo knelt down and carefully passed his hand underneath the doctor, meeting with no resistance. He withdrew and stood back up, then gently poked Reid in the chest. “…Not a ghost.” “Nope.” Camilo nodded then stepped back and sat down. “Okay…” “Now that that’s over, let me introduce myself,” the doctor said. “My name is Reid Gardi, a human man. You may call me Dr. Gardi, Reid, doc, Red, Ghost Guy, Gardi B, weirdo with no beardo, whatever. I don’t care.” Camilo offered his hand. “Camilo.” Reid shook it. “Very nice to meet you.” Camilo now noticed the bulge in the doctor’s stomach. “You’re expecting?” “Yes.” “Well, congratulations.” “Thank you. I do love when the experiments go so well.” Camilo blinked. “Experiments?” “Yes.” Reid eyes lit up. He loved talking about his work. “The spectres often leave me up the duff after the encounters. It’s really my favourite part. Gives me more time to study them an’ I don’t have to worry about having an actual bairn after.” Camilo pointed again. “That…That’s a ghost baby?” “Aye.” Camilo got back up. “Well, thank you for seeing me. Good appointment. I should go.” Reid chuckled and patted Camilo’s shoulder. “Sit down. We haven’t even looked at you yet.” “Yeah, I don’t think we need to anymore… My problem will probably just fix itself later… I can wait ‘til Syd gets back…” “Now, come on, Camilo. You came here for some care and I’m here. I care.” Reid put his hands on his hips. “So let me know why you’re here so I can help.” Camilo frowned but nodded and sat back down. “…Well, um… I’m transgender and I’ve been on testosterone for six years.” “Ooh, very nice,” Reid said sitting down at the computer and pulling up Camilo’s file. “I myself have been a T fer fourteen years.” “But I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant.” “I told you so.” Camilo blinked looking up at the doctor. “What?” “Oh, sorry,” Reid apologised. He turned the computer monitor towards Camilo. “Syd left a note in your file that says ‘If Camilo gets pregnant again tell him ‘I told you so’.” “…Ah. That sounds like Syd…” “So did you want me to confirm the pregnancy?” Reid asked. “Well, I mean, we can do that, that’d be good…” Camilo rubbed his arm. “But, really it’s more that I don’t know what to do about it.” “Oh.” Reid swivelled his chair around to face Camilo and put his hands together. “Are you on the fence about having a child?” “Well, no, not exactly…” Camilo shook his head. “I don’t want a child at this time in my life… But my boyfriend and I aren’t really able to have a child. Last time I miscarried and I probably will this time too.” “Your boyfriend's name is…” Reid turned back to his computer to check the database. “Rheni.” “I don't have a Rheni in the system…” “Um, Arrhenius?” “Ah, yes here we are…” Reid took a moment to read over Rheni's file. “Oh, interesting… Human consciousness in an extraterrestrial body… Oh, yes you almost certainly would not be able to reproduce. It's nearly a miracle you can even get pregnant, especially while so long on hormones…” “That's what I've been told.” “Well, then you may be right. You should be preparing for a miscarriage.” Reid turned away from the computer again. “Did Syd not go over contraception with you?” “They did, but I wasn't really comfortable with some of their suggestions… But we've been using condoms.” “Well…” Reid leaned back in his chair. “We'll have to run some tests. Determine the status of this pregnancy. When dealing in extraterrestrial matters, our known laws of biology sometimes don't apply as we expect them to.” “Okay…” Camilo rubbed his arm. “What kind of tests?” “We can start with a blood test.” Reid stood up and motioned to the door. “If  you'll follow me.” Camilo got up and followed the doctor out.
