It’s an insult to Allah ﷻ to think that He won’t forgive you for your sins. He is ar-Rahman, ar-Rahim, al-Ghaffar.

This sheik at a local masjid near my school was talking about how Allah doesn’t expect you to be perfect. Which makes sense I guess because we are “human,” and we should always try to stay on the right path and pray for Allah’s guidance. However, he went on to say that all one needs to do for forgiveness for all their sins is to recite the kalma. Also, he said if you attend jummah any “minor” sins you committed the week before are forgiven. Now if this is true, that person may have had to recite the most sincere kalma anyone has ever recited or he had to have repented a lot before saying reciting that kalma. Then again I can’t really tell you what Allah would do, only Allah knows who is sincere and who is not. However, if simply reciting the kalma will give you a clean slate then how is this any different from Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. Also, when we do pray jummah, who decides what is considered a minor sin or a major sin. Now, Allah is Al-Ghaffar (the forgiver) and Allah may forgive someone’s sins for just reciting the kalma, but it’s unliikely. Forgiveness is different for everyone, Allah may not forgive me or you for just reciting the kalma. Everyone has different trials and everyone is also forgiven “differently.” I may be forgiven after offering a very sincere Thajjad prayer this morning or when I’m 76. Who knows. But simply saying Allah forgives all your sins by just saying the kalma is just tricking people to recite it insincerely and ultimately depriving them of the true meaning of the kalma; which is probably an even bigger sin.
