Originally a 3DO platform game mascot, this Saturn version is identical in every way. The thing about GEX and most other American-made games of the time is that everything looks dull. Even the colorful levels look dull. Playability wise GEX isn't that bad. He controls well, has different abilities, and even moves quite fluently. The thing that is annoying about GEX is the God-awful pointless speech. Complete crap. It's no surprise that the default option setting on the Japanese game is set to off.
GEX isn't a terrible game by all means, it's just incredibly dull in looks and style. Maybe if the game had a bit more shine to it then it wouldn't be such a drag to play. We'll never know though.
