Have you ever been in a conversation where it is clear that the other person has not listened to what you said? Too often, people hear, but do not listen. It is as if they are just waiting for their turn to speak.
What if we learn to listen in order to better understand each other? Would it improve our communication if we took the time to verify with the other person that we have the correct understanding of what they said before we reply? You bet it would!
The next conversation you have, focus on what is being said and let a few seconds pass before you respond. Seek to understand before you seek to be understood. People are more willing to be open with you when they know you will truly listen.
