He’s been rambling for a while and you can’t help but smile at his sincerity. You’re also trying to keep yourself from giggling at his awkward and endearing attempt at a romantic confession. One of his hands is resting on the table and you take it gently in your own. He pauses.

“Chester.”

“Yes?”

“You’re really cute.”

He doesn’t deign your declaration a proper response, he merely flusters and tries and fails a few times to say something in response. You do giggle at him this time. You look up at him with what you hope is a reassuring expression, although you are still trying to reign in your giggles.

“You should just let me kiss you now.”

He flusters again, although you’re not certain if it’s just at your words of if he noticed the flirtatious grin that formed as you spoke, “Come again?”

“Can I kiss you?”

His face reddens and it seems to finally sink in for him what you meant. When he answers, it’s almost more of a squeak when he responds with a tiny ‘yes’.

You don’t need much further convincing. You tighten your grip on his hand, using your free hand to support your weight against the table as you lean up out of your seat to reach his face. Chester hesitates but ultimately leans in to meet you halfway. It’s soft and sweet when your lips finally meet, even if it’s a bit awkward as well. He’s kind of clumsy in the way he tries to mirror the movements of your lips, but you can’t find any fault in him. You like him too much.

When you pull away from the kiss, you can feel the exhilarated flush on your face and the satisfied grim that forms. He’s still a bit red-faced, having been blushing for much of your conversation already, but now he also smiles at you, shy and sweet. Your voice is low and almost whisper-soft when you speak,“So I get to call you my boyfriend now, right?”

He makes a face that seems torn between embarrassed and giddy but he’s surprisingly assured in his reply, “Yes. I’d really like that.”
