The subtitles in OW2 occasionally do characters dirty when it comes to translating lines in other languages, either subtracting meaning or adding it.
Let's take a look at one of Genji's respawn lines (which I hear a lot because I am NOT GOOD AT GENJI)
In the subtitles, this line is translated as "I will persevere through defeat."
HOW LAME!
They did Genji dirty :( they removed the proverb-y-ness and Japanese-ness from his voice line:(
A funny one from Sigma is this simple respawn line:
The captions write this as "Every why has a wherefore" which makes it sound so much more eccentric and Sigma-like. Even though the translation isn't completely accurate, I kinda like it.
And this "On fire" voice line from Ana absolutely sucks because the translation is given simply as "I'm on fire!" When really she's saying:
NO ONE CAN BEAT ME!!! GO GRANDMA GO!!!
"what the hell... this is why Genji doesn't have a body anymore, all he eats are chicken nuggets"
