Have you played Savage Worlds ?
By Shane Lacy Hensley & Clint Black
Savage Worlds is a Fast! Furious! and Fun! rules system for any genre of roleplaying game.
Create your own setting, convert an existing one, or pick up one of our amazing settings like Deadlands, Rippers, or 50 Fathoms.
The rules give players plenty of depth to create their characters and keep bookkeeping to a minimum for the Game Master. If you’re looking for a game that’s fast and easy to set up, run, and play, Savage Worlds is for you!
Have you played ?
Yes I have played it
No but I've read it
No but I've heard of it
Never heard of it
Going Generic! An Introduction to Generic RPGs!
Going Generic! An Introduction to Generic RPGs!
2021 is the year of the generic RPG here at POCGamer, and it’s long past time to kick this series of posts off. And where better to start than by examining what exactly a Generic RPG is, and what strengths and challenges they can bring to your gaming experience. So it’s time to go Generic! (more…)

Game Building: Maximizing Generic Power
There are a lot of great generic (read: setting & genre agnostic) tabletop RPGs out there. Savage Worlds. FATE. Cypher System. Fuzion. Genesys. Open Legend. Tide Breaker. The list goes on. But why aren’t these games dominating the scene? Why have they remained niche, forever runners-up in the hobby? Well, let’s dive into it. Background Generic RPGs have existed almost as long as the hobby has,…
In the absence of anything cool to post about, behold:Â
Generic RPG, my first RPGMaker project.
Anyone who’s used RPGMaker will have something like this: a nonsensical game with even more nonsensical mechanics - random dialogue, unnamed characters who join your party for no particular reason, items you spent approximately 5 seconds naming. This was my (unsurprisingly unfinished) version of that.
You (or rather, our main character called ‘???’) awaken on a strange island, with no memory of your identity, where you are, or how you got there. Luckily there’s a stranger (aptly named ‘stranger’) who you can talk to (and potentially fight, if you so fancy).
If successfully choosing the dialogue options which lead to a fight, you are greeted by a colourful void (don’t question it), and an angry stranger, accompanied by a white box floating above his head that won’t leave. The ensuing battle has a roughly 50/50 win/lose chance, with both characters expressing that they have no clue what they are doing, much like myself.
After this thrilling encounter, the stranger reveals that he also has amnesia and therefore can provide you with no additional information, before joining your party. The two of you can now enter the town on the map.
You are greeted by a place that likely resembled the streets of your own neighborhood during lockdown: barren streets, not a soul outside. Except for the guy on fire. But we’ll get to him later.
Moreover, there is but a single building in this town: an Inn.Â
But, oh no! The doors are blocked... whatever will you do? (Ignore the fact I shamelessly stole assets from Omori).
Luckily there’s a convenient burning man running around a lake, and, upon speaking to him, he bestows upon you blessing which allows you to enter the Inn.Â
Now you’re free to explore this half-finished building full of mystery and intrigue.
Featuring:
The ability to insult a child.
Unbeelievably bad puns.
Piss bucket.
Lore that never gets explained because I got lazy.
More lore that never gets explained.
Drugs Simulator 2023.
What’s this...?
The only room you ever need.
Accurate cat behaviour (sometimes they block the door and you have to wait for them to leave).
This guy getting defensive over his cosplay.
The ability to buy infinite NFTs.
Pointless interactions.
Cool original music I definitely wrote and didn’t steal from Undertale.
After exploring for a while, ignoring all the rooms that are full of items but have no interactions, you come across a mysteriously locked door.Â
Lucky for you, you still have that key you picked up earlier, and it’s a perfect fit. Opening the door you-
What?
No, that’s not possible.
You’re not supposed to be here.
Get out while you still can.
