Hey! So! Things. Good news, Genesis is starting to wake up again! Bad news is I am turning this blog into an archive as stated by the new user name, and will no longer be active here after this post circulates a while.

More good news is that I am moving house to the same URL, @GeneralRhapsodos but now I will be operating from a side blog so I can manage my personal, my art blog, and my RP’s all from mobile as that’s what I have more frequently been using for a really long time.

I really hope this reaches even at least a few of the people I used to interact with. If I don’t remember you exclusively I do apologize as my memory is complete shit.

All my headcanons will remain and I hopefully will expand on my headcanon Gaia eventually and finish that map I was making

Cloud’s head spun as he rode swiftly through the forest, trees flashing by him in a blur. All he could hear was Reeve’s voice ringing through his ears that they had found someone matching Genesis’ description nearly dead, and currently in recovery. 

He couldn’t help but wonder if this person was Genesis; he didn’t know if he could take it if they shouldn’t be. Genesis’ death had hit him harder than Zack’s, or even Aerith’s, had. Cloud had crawled back into his shell and seemed to close off from everyone. He knew he shouldn’t be acting like that, that Genesis would have been upset with him that he had, but...

It had been hard, so very hard, to listen to Genesis’ dying message. To know that the redhead was never going to meet up with him, to joke or make jabs at him, for them to talk or simply sit in content silence together... it had been heartbreaking. Which was why now he clung so very hard to the hope that perhaps, just perhaps, Genesis was indeed alive.

The blonde slowed down as he neared the village that had called in, saying they had a person who was a SOLDIER, the SOLDIER that fit Genesis’ description. As he dismounted and then approached the village’s mayor, the voice in his mind changed from Reeve’s to Genesis’, whispering over and over that “I love you.”

What had Genesis meant by that? Had it been platonic? Or had he meant it like... Cloud gave a little shake of his head, not daring to hope or even believe at the moment. First things were first; was Genesis even alive? He followed the mayor soundlessly, ignoring the stares and whispers from the people around them. He entered the doctor’s house, greeted the doctor and then followed him from there to the room where the injured SOLDIER would be.

Was this how he died? Lying broken among the trees, half-buried among the snow? It seemed fitting, in some odd way - he was from the mountains, only seemed natural to fall to it, right?

Cloud couldn’t even recall how the Alpha Nibel dragon had gotten the upper hand on him, usually he could deal with such a pest easily. Either he had hit his head harder than he though, or had he... what was it that Reeve said he did? Disassociate? Yeah, that sounded about right... Usually it didn’t happen too often, but it seemed as if it had happened during a bad time, this time. At least he’d cut a decent chunk out of the bastard.

His head ached terribly and there was something wrong with his sight - he couldn’t see. His mouth felt like it was stuffed with cotton and his ears, too. Everything he heard was muffled - like a breath on the wind. It was getting harder and harder to breathe what little he could, his body refused to move and the one time something even twitched his whole body screamed in protest and pain.

And then, he heard something... someone? But who..? Oh, yeah... he’d been with Genesis, hadn’t he? Cloud couldn’t quite remember - his head was getting fuzzier by the moment, his breathing shortening dangerously.

Was Genesis going to try and save him? Could Genesis save him? Why would he even try? Cloud was broken - broken in so many ways, and not just in body but in soul, too. What was the point? Wouldn’t it be better if he was just... gone? He’d get to see them again, Aerith, Zack, his mother... even Sephiroth.

Cloud’s eyelids fluttered shut, and if his hands had been free they’d moved to grip Genesis’ shirt. Instead his fingers curled in on themselves, nails digging into his palms, his breathing a bit shaky.

A small squeak of surprise left him the first time he felt the redhead’s tongue on his neck, and once more he attempted to stammer out- “G-Gen? What ar-” 

Despite how clunky combat boots usually were, the hunter’s steps were silent as he made his way into the long abandoned mansion. Cloud was careful to keep his breathing either really quiet, or near silent as he slunk through the shadows, sharp eyes constantly looking around for his prey.

A few weeks ago he had heard that a creature - a vampire, if the rumors were true - had moved into Kalm. Being one of the top-notched hunters who specialized in vampires, he’d been called in. Though the reason as to why he specialized in them, very few knew.

Cloud himself was part-creature; part ‘werewolf’. Werewolves and vampires had held a feud for longer than even humans and creatures. That didn’t mean to say he hated vampires - on the contrary, he found them interesting.

“Yeah?” Cloud quirked a brow when he felt a hand on his wrist, and then a hard enough tug that encouraged him to follow the redhead. “Wha-” He began before his eyes widened in surprised as he was suddenly pulled into one of the darkened guest bedrooms and pinned against the wall.

“Gen?” The other was close enough that Cloud could easily pick up the smell of smoke and apples. He had opened his mouth to begin his previous question again when he felt warm lips kissing the side of his neck.

The Turks once attempted to recruit Cloud when he was a teenager.

Cloud liked to underestimate his strength because he was weaker than the other boys his age back home, which was due to his shorter stature and lithe body type. However, because of this and the constant bullying he endured, Cloud got faster and smarter on his feet.

Thanks to being the town outcast, he spent a lot of time in the mountains doing all sorts of things - Materia hunting and using, climbing up the sides of cliffs, hunting Nibelwolves and Dragons. When he was little his Ma gave him a gun and taught him how to shoot, and how to shoot to kill in the first shot - otherwise a wolf or a dragon will get you. When he wasn’t outside, he was at home reading as much as he could or helping his mother with her sewing or baking.

Fast forward to Cloud’s military years - he’s the top of his class, has a record with Materia that’s nearly on-par with Genesis Rhapsodos’, and a dead shot with a simple handgun or shotgun (the first since Vincent Valentine himself). 

The Turks notice this, and plan on approaching him, but of course they gotta do it Turk style. Tseng “fakes” (he actually crashed it by accident) a helicopter crash during a mission in hopes of talking to Cloud while dragging behind Zack, but alas that plan is ruined when Cloud’s able to keep up with the First Class SOLDIER.

Tseng tries again while they’re in the building looking for Angeal, but gets interrupted and attack by the man they’re looking for. Once more he tries on the way home only to get interrupted once more - by Cloud as the poor trooper promptly throws up on the Turk, sickened by the ride.

After that, trying to tell Cloud is practically impossible, anytime any of the Turks attempt to even try and talk to the poor kid, something happens to him or them - or Zack interrupts. 

By a stroke of luck, Tseng actually hunts the trooper down, grasps Cloud’s shoulders tightly and bluntly states, “We want you to join the Turks.”

Cloud - who has given up on being SOLDIER, due to the results of his blood tests - agrees, stunning Tseng. They make plans for Cloud to official join after the mission he’s about to leave for - the mission to Nibelheim.

And then, Cloud disappears into Hojo’s labs, only to return five years later with no memories of Tseng approaching him, and thinking that he’s a First Class SOLDIER.
