I (30 F) dreamed last night about a performance I was attending with a friend who does not exist that included gods from Heaven's Official Blessing. I had had this dream once before i had actually read more than a passing fanfic, but the quality of the performance has not grown from the rudimentary costumes and sweaty circus-tent atmosphere from before. When the actors were leaving in procession, some stayed to talk in-character to audience members. One of these was the actor playing General Pei.

In reference to an amalgamation of real and unreal characters within the Heavens Official Blessing universe, I jokingly teased to my friend about General Pei that "this guy gets witches" (which was obviously in reference to a character that was an amalgamation of canon and non canon characters that General Pei had failed to woo and was played for laughs and I didn't want to say 'bitches').

In response, he broke character and told me that saying that was "cold" or "low" or something, and that these guys performing these roles are largely doing it to put food on the table rather than any love or knowledge for the source material. There was maybe an air that the gods were actual historical Chinese deities??
