First of all - welcome! I'm so happy that you're here. It's been a pleasure seeing new followers and readers discovering this fandom!

I know I'm not the only writer who has noticed some changes in the level of interaction in the fandom these couple of months. As someone relatively new to the fandom myself (it will be one year in March), I thought I'd post this cheatsheet for newer users who might not be familiar with this community.

1. Please reblog!

This is the primary way you find content and fics on Tumblr - please reblog freely and often! Content creators and writers spend their precious free time producing content for free. All we ask for is you share our work. While likes are nice, you are not sharing content by just liking content.

You don't even have to add anything to a reblog - a blank reblog is definitely more helpful than a like.

2. Feedback is very much appreciated!

If you are able to, please leave feedback for fics. It can be a comment, a reblog, tags in a reblog, or a gif - it means the world to have meaningful interaction with readers. It doesn't need to be a literary review, even a short comment or a keyboard smash is appreciated and will keep writers going.

3. If you want to stay anonymous, send in asks!

Anonymous or not, asks are always appreciated! But especially for readers who want to stay anonymous, send in asks to interact with writers.

4. Please interact with completed works!

I'm really feeling this one - I've had so many readers serial like their way through Consent, but literally just one or two users have left feedback in the last few months. Even if a fic is completed, no matter how long ago, writers would love to hear from you!

Same deal for fics that have not been completed, but haven't been updated for a while - leave reblogs and comments to encourage the writer to keep going!

5. Please be kind!

We are all human behind our accounts. Often we are writing late into the night after our full-time jobs, or giving up free time for writing. So please be kind when you reach out to writers, as you would anyone you meet in real life.

Bore me

Remind me of people I hate or have hated

Creep me out

Be a bitch to my favourite characters (but if they neither annoy nor bore me, being a bitch to my favourites can be a good thing)

Be a bitch to other characters (but if they neither bore nor annoy me this can actually be a good thing)

Be written in a way that directly puts down other characters

Are a lot of the people in your cosplay discord community kind of racist? Leave! Is someone harassing you over how you drew a character? Block them! Do certain whole subgenres of fics make you queasy when you think of them? Blacklist/filter them out! Do you not like the way a certain fandom-friend/mutual is speaking to you? Unfollow and stop talking to them!

After years soley in THG fandom, and only occassionally dipping my toes into other fandoms for a bit, I found myself completely sucked into another fandom.

This was my first obsession on THG level since, well, THG.

And boy it's a different experience.

For a start, tumblr for that fandom is a bit dead. But twitter is really active. So I got twitter. Tweets tend do be funny, it's quite active and generally good fun

But shipping wars and general anti behaviour ARE A THING in this fandom. I appreciate THG fandom so much more and I didn't know how good we had it even with shipping wars compared to this

There's types of fics I've never seen before (maybe just cause I'm getting old and all them younglings know of this already). Tweet fics are a thing, people make social media accounts for characters and write whole stories through messages characters exchange on social media. I've seen one which was just pure mixed media art, with fake news articles, even scientific articles, police reports, messages, plane tickets, just amazing.

Fics are great, amazing, I'm in awe. They tend to be longer than THG ones (I read multiple with over 50 chapters). But I THG fics still hold my heart ❤

I thought there was a lot of smut in THG fanfiction but it's nothing compared to this. My eyes have read things I never thought I would read (and liked it).

Venturing into another fandom actually gave me an even bigger respect for THG fandom. Sure there were shipping wars here, but nothing on this level. In general THG fandom was much more chill, and people are great 😊

It's an interesting experience because I see how we as people shape the fandom spaces and how we can build them completely differently depending on who is participating. Also just the use of twitter vs tumblr changes so much in how the fandom behaves.
