eίμαι τόσο κουρασμένος σήμερα, θείε. i cannot remember the last time i have closed my eyes and known a quiet rest, the nightmares plague and revile me , and i am helpless to them, i have never known an enemy i cannot slay, uncle. that i could not lay on my sword or crush beneath my heel, uncle, the enemy, it seems, is myself. how am i meant to slay myself ? the infinite wondering, how do i make it stop ? ; the repetitious thought with the answer that comes so easily. and yet, still, my incessant need for bloodshed. the power i feel in knowing i can control death.
if not my own, then, the deaths of others. i am the jury , my blade the executioner. i play a roulette with lives, uncle. am i not monstrous to you ? king of ice , long since thawed. i see the lilies sprouting from your snow. how can you herald winter & still be warm ? oh, υπάρχουν τόσα πολλά που δεν καταλαβαίνω, φαίνεται. am i a foolish child to you, then, if not a monster ? but a silent, breathless baby yet free from the questions of : WHO AM I ?
“ σε παρακαλώ, μη με μισείς, θείε. ” i bump my head against your arm - as a child might. i rest my temple there, breathe in your smell. - i huff my frusterations. when will it end? this war of myself, this war i have waged against all who live. when ! i demand the answer, i . . . i beg for the answer. “ i fear i will never be free of war, that it will never end for me. i like it too much. the fighting, the struggling. the chaos of it all. a sick part of me. . .has a macabre fascination with war. wants to believe that. . . I AM WAR. ” i close my eyes. i keep the dreams at bay.
“ i will never be soft, θείε. ”
WHEN THE WAR FINALLY ENDS , he says.
