Automated hot pot at Ochatto, Philadelphia, PA. Geeklet enjoyed hot noodles in herb broth after a long day of ballroom dance.
Geeklet and The Director composed the score and Geeklet animated this commercial for octopods. December 2016-January 2017.
A random conversation with my 11 year old:
Her: *chatters about various things, including her "OC's" that she's working on.
Me: "Oh, you mean your Original Characters? How many have you created, and what games/books are they based on?"
Her: *startled, wide-eyed look* "How in the heck do YOU know what that is?"
Me: *smirks*
May 20, 2016. Geeklet after mastering a feat of mental agility: memorizing the order of a randomly shuffled deck of 52 playing cards. She was given three days to prepare. She designed a code to represent the cards.
Hearts = mom
Diamonds = Geeklet
Clubs = dad
Spades = The Director
She assigned the face/number cards to their corresponding letter in the alphabet, then came up with an object that started with that letter.
Ace = apple
2 = banana
3 = cat
4 = duck
5 = egg
6 = fish
7 = Gromit
8 = happy
9 = ice cube
10 = juice
Jack = Kit Kat bar
Queen = lemon
King = math
By combining the person assigned to each suit and the object corresponding to the face value, she came up with a linear narrative that helped her remember the sequence of the cards. It took her one evening to hit upon an effective code and memorize the first 10 cards, another evening to memorize cards 11-30, and another evening to memorize cards 41-52. Once she was comfortable with the code, the memorization came surprisingly easily. The prospect of memorizing 52 randomly ordered cards seemed daunting without the encoding, but the narrative permitted much stronger associations between each card and its neighbors, as well as an overall plot with movement and resolution.
