I’m torn because I want her to just Start Singing but also that killed the other gal....
I know this is a standard magical girl show thing but it’s so polite of the monsters to stand by and wait while the transformation happens
This whole cuckoo poem is one of those things where... it’s so dramatic and OTT that on the one hand I feel like starting right out with it, before you’ve given us a chance to get attached, makes it really hard to take seriously, which is a shame? I’m a big dramatic goth, I’d love to take it seriously, but it’s difficult right out of the gate like this.
But then on the other hand I’m always curious about how the emotional hit of things changes through translation; it’s entirely possible that this is worded so beautifully in the Japanese that it doesn’t have that effect, and I’d like to give it the benefit of the doubt. It’s one of those things where even if I spoke/understood Japanese as well as I ever did, I still wouldn’t really trust myself to know, because stuff like elegance of poetry etc is so hard to judge when you’re not a native or at least fluent speaker, you know?
I always think about the Vocaloid song Just Be Friends, and how despite its being fairly complex and metaphorical and lovely throughout the verses, the bit that always had the strongest emotional hit for me was “さよなら、愛した人、ここまでだ” (goodbye, my beloved, it ends here) which is a very simple line, but I think the reason it hit me so hard was the fact that I understood it very immediately-- even with my limited Japanese, I didn’t have to go ‘ugh what is she saying’, I just got the meaning immediately. To someone fluent, that might feel too simple to have that much of a hit. It’s weird and personal and I’m super off topic now sorry lol
Okay, running desperately for the shelter with a small child on your back just grabbed something in me, like I had some ancestor who lived through the Blitz and their ghost just possessed me to go HOLY FUCK. That’s the strongest reaction I’ve had to the peril all episode.

no that’s not fair, if other characters also turn out to be gay it’s fine that you killed one of these two off, it’s just
