what up,  is you casual neighbourhood gay kaz here,  bringing you this fun lump of a character bc brittany oâgrady is beautiful &  criminally underused.  i also love the hunger games,  especially canon divergent ones that make things more interesting. mmmkay thatâs enough about me because iâm dull af,  on to kit.
kit ogden was born in an alleyway to a real young mother who had zero money.  given the tragic circumstances of the birth,  the mother died of blood-loss when the peacekeepers that found her didnât think âoh letâs call a doctorâ because she was poor.   they took the kid and left her on a doorstep of a local farmhouse, owned by a woman who was notorious for taking in the gutter trash of ten. Â
she got her name bc one of the peacekeepers wrote the word kid on a piece of paper to name her, but his handwriting was so bad that when lysetta ogden found her she was like âoh her nameâs kit!âÂ
lysetta didnât technically have any children, she had a son but he died in the games decades before kit was born. her husband couldnât handle the loss and drunk himself to death.  lysetta always realised there were other things to do in life. though she doesnât see kit as her child, sheâs the closest thing she has. if you ignored the fact that her farmhouse was actually a slaughterhouse,  youâd think she was the sweetest woman.  has been a big supporter of the rebellion for pretty much the entire time.
they lived in a slaughterhouse/farmhouse/workhouse that was on the outskirts of ten,  so they were pretty much ignored a lot. because she was homeschooled, most people didnât know kit existed until she started working at the slaughterhouse and delivering meat to butchers.Â
so yeah, kit grew up working in the slaughterhouse to âearn her keepâ bc lysetta didnât get paid to take her in.  there were a lot of people that couldnât get work in the district working their too, especially teens who needed to make money for their family so lysetta took them in so they didnât have to take tessarae. this wasnât like a tragic thing,  she didnât work them to death.  it was just what they had to do to keep things running.
yeah,  because they didnât have a maternal relationship most of the emotional stuff kit got from herself.  sheâs always been a real tomboy,  mostly bc the farm work.  her first love was a girl her age she used to see in the butchers.  that wasnât like a real thing though.  then she met corin donnelly who was just a badass.  used to test waters by screaming âscrew the capitolâ as loud as she could without anyone hearing. they both fell hard. corin had more worldly experience than kit so she helped her understand things.  they went to their first reaping together when they were fifteen and just held each others hands so tightly.  neither of their names werenât called.   then of course fate screws things over,  the next year corinâs name was called and kit had to be physically dragged away from her by peacekeepers.  of course not before screaming  âscrew the capitolâ  live on air.
corin died.  she made it to the last third of the game but just wasnât strong enough to overpower strong career-types. as she lay dying her words mouthed âscrew the capitolâ so yeah, she is the reason kit is team rebels.
lysetta basically told her about a few rebel things whilst they were in the slaughterhouse working. that was kits coping mechanism.  to kill animals and pretend they were capitolites.
she is not surprised she was reaped for the quell.  her outburst at corinâs reaping was pretty public. though sheâs going to try and not mention her at all.  play it off like âthat wasnât me idk what youâre on aboutâ  even though sheâs pretty mad.
personality wise sheâs fun,  when she wants to speak,  sheâs a pretty big observer type.  if she gets on with you then youâll realise that sheâs smart.  is very good at getting over things.  even corinâs death sheâs pretty much over,   emotionally.  sheâs team   â iâm gonna remember her and be happy, because she always made me happy â
like bendelacreme she can often be terminally delightful but in a sarcy kind of âiâm not miserable so you shouldnât be;
