Worldbuilding; introduction
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to Worldbuilding June. This is just an introductory post to let you know what to expect over the coming month.
I will tag all relevant posts with #wbj . Iâm going to be developing the lovely fantasy world that my novel-in-progress âGlass Beads for a Kingdomâ takes place.
There are two countries and three main organisations.
The first is a small, cleric-like cloister, known as the Aria Circle. They are healers, and use song to magically heal a number of ailments. This comes at a cost to them; magical dependency causes a reduction in fertility and life expectancy. The leaders of the Aria Circle are known as the Foci. Each focus is the leader of one Aria, or family group. Each Aria has a speciality, and its members wear a number of beads as according to the number of positions away from the Focus. Mahogany deal with physical disabilities, Viridian with genetic disorders, Alabaster with mental illness, Lilac with vocal and throat injury/illness, Vermillion with injuries and Azure with disease.
The main character, Aaliya Shulamith, is a first bead Azure, as the daughter of the focus, and a third bear alabaster, as the daughter of the Focusâ cousin.
The second group is the country of Euphemia. A large country, situated south from the Aria Circleâs plateau, its land is mostly hot and dry, more bushland than forest. A ruler, be it King, Queen or Monarch, presides over the country with the aid of a Crown Obligeant and a council. Today, the King is King Cypress, and his son, Rowan, is Crown Obligeant. The capital, also called Euphemia, is overflowing. For Euphemians, oneâs value is determined by expertise, and everyone important can claim to be unparalleled in one area, no matter how niche.
Finally, Isetan. Isetan is a country of rich resource and culture. Emerald forests and boundless rivers are accompanied by a flamboyant people group. Flattery is the order of the day, each attempting to out lie and out perform others. War Regeant Sadie and Domestic Regeant Tamous are in power. And no, they arenât married. For many years, the position of War Regeant has been a cursory one, left from years of squabbling with Euphemia.
