AU idea that I do not know enough to write about
One summer in college, Courf and Ferre both have summer classes. But Ferre’s is like a lab class and he can kind of make his own hours. So he decides to take a job at Space Camp as a counselor. It goes pretty well, Courf walks to where Space Camp is and picks his friend up every day and they usually grab a meal before they both go back to their studies. They talk about their days and Courf loves seeing his friend so excited in sharing space with kids.
Then one week, Combeferre gets one kid in his group and he’s a firecracker. He seems to really enjoy all the space stuff and hangs off of Combeferre’s every word. But then he starts getting in trouble. So one day, Courf goes to meet his friend and there’s this kid sitting outside, looking surely. But Courf works his magic and they start talking. The Combeferre walks out and says ah, I see you’ve met Gavrouche, my best and worst student. Which, fair, but Gavrouche takes offence until Courf complains that that’s his title.
Anyway, they some how end up taking this kid out for dinner and learn he’s on scholarship at the camp, but that’s all they learn. But Combeferre and Courf sort of take him under their wing. Over the time there, they learn that Gavrouche is in foster care and his older sister tries to care for him as much as she can. but not exactly easy.
So, the rest of the summer the two learn more about Gavrouche, meeting him at local parks on weekends, taking him out to dinner with them, and he starts jokingly calling him his Dads after finding out it gets them strange looks in public and Ferre and Courf just go with ith. Then Eponine enters the scene and is all upset, worried some random men are taking advantage of her little brother. It takes time, but eventually they win her over, but she asks about them being okay with Gavrouche referring to them as his dads and Courf laughs hysterically while Combeferre grumbles about it being better than being called an “Old man” or “Grandpa” by Courf.
Anyway, so the end of summer comes and all of there friends get back and they all go on their annual end of summer trip and invite Eponine and Gavrouche. Cosette instantly takes Eponine under her wing and Musichetta and Eponine bond over making drinks. Gavrouche bounces around all the friends, generally causing havoc and eaves dropping. Enj, Ferre, and Courf all end up making plans for the year and meetings of Amis. Everyone is asking Combeferre about Space Camp and they’re kind of surprised when Gavrouche enters the conversation but it’s clear he’s excited. And Ferre, Courf, and Gav spend their nights looking out of Ferre’ telescope looking at the constellations.
Eponine and Gavrouche are instantly pulled into the group, and though Eponine finds herself pulled in she’s still hesitant and suspicious. At the first meeting they decide that their group’s focus for the year will be the childcare system and keeping family’s together that should be together, especially siblings. Eponine, at first, thinks they’ve been taken advantage of and become some sort of charity case and won’t speak to anyone for awhile. But eventually they get it figured out and they tell Eponine that they aren’t a charity case, they just helped them realize how messed up the system is and that they want to help other families stay together like Eponine has been able to keep track of Gavrouche and stay in his life. Which, she’s still suspicious but agrees to give them a chance.
Over time, Eponine and Gavrouche are integrated into the group and the siblings notice the unsaid feelings between Courf and Ferre, and the longing stares. So when they’re invited to the next summer’s end of summer trip, the siblings make a plan and Eponine ropes in Cosette and oh, oops! They somehow miscounted the number of beds/rooms for everyone and when Courf and Ferre find their room Theres… Only OnE bEd. Finally, over the trip, sharing a bed, and Gavrouche mysteriously disappearing from their little family star gazing dates every night, they finally realize their feelings Also.... Eponine may have locked them in their bedroom one day and pretended to have lost a key and all the girls’ have no bobbypins.
As they get older, Gavrouche calls Ferre and Courf their names to their faces. But then they show up to his high school graduation and his teacher’s instantly know who he is. His English teacher takes them aside and thanks them for their influence on Gavrouche and talks about how whenever there were assignments about family and influential people in his life he always talks about Eponine, Courf and Ferre. And Courf is honest to god NOT CRYING! OKAY?! THIS IS AN OLD BUILDING AND THERE IS DUST IN HERE! Then Gavrouche’s science teacher takes them aside and talks about how promising he is in the field and how he really has a mind for it. And thanks Combeferre for taking Gavrouche under his wing all those years ago at Space Camp.
Eventually, when Comebferre and Courf adopt, Gavrouche instantly falls into the role of older brother, tells the kid all about how he met their dads, and whines with the kid and gives puppy eyes, and takes the kid out on sibling dates. And Eponine is a doting aunt and she doesn’t know how or when she got so close to these crazy, loving men. And they’re all just one big, happy, family, all thanks to Space Camp, okay?
And Ferre will never let Courf live down the fact that it took a nerdy camp and space geek kid to get them together. Which, Hey! I am not a space geek! I am a rocket scientist! By Gavrouche, and a whining noise from Courf because he can’t really argue. While Eponine rolls hers eyes and tells the baby in her arms that their dads are idiots and to just come to their Auntie Eponine with romantic questions, okay?
