Persepolis is situated 70 km northeast of city of Shiraz in the Fars Province in Iran. The earliest remains of Persepolis date from around 515 BC. It exemplifies the #Achaemenid style of architecture. • The two lamassu on the western portal of the #GateofAllNations - the entrance to Persepolis. The Gate of All Nations at the ancient Persian city of Persepolis. Inscribed in stone is a trilingual statement that Xerxes I ordered it to be built. The site was sacked and eventually looted by Alexander the Greats invading army after just over 300 years. The name of Xerxes I was written in three languages and carved on the entrances, informing everyone that he ordered it to be built. #iran #persepolis #persia #travelblog #ancientmonuments #travelphoto #travelphoto #travelpic #spottly #cntraveller #bbctravel #ruins #rtw #travel #weloveiran #alexanderthegreat #gateofallnations #unity #peace #archeology (at Persepolis)
