From the dense darkness of the fir trees, an Eurasian Jay (Japanese, Garrulus glandarius japonicus) bursts forth, spreading its magnificent wings. The way it moves swiftly through the dense branches of conifers reminds me so much of the Japanese squirrels often found in similar places—though maybe it's just me (I often confuse them).
