He had seen the flash on the horizon, a guttering star in the dark of the evening, but Garris knew what it had meant.

“Crows, Goldenshade forces; we’re gone. Belono sil'aru, tal'dorei.”

His gut clenched and his fingers tightened around the reins at those words, but he did as he must, the Crows moving in formation away from the field, away from the realm of the dead. He looked back, hoping for some last glimmer, but there was none. And the night was darker for it.

The third dawn sees him knocking on Thandiel’s door, sword unbuckled and clasped in hand.

“She saw fit to trust you with her life. I knew her, and she did not do this lightly. With both her and Emberheart gone, then they fall to me. If you’ll have us, the Crows will fight with you Highdawn.” He pauses, looking at her squarely. “It’s what she would have wanted.”
