More on skills we are never taught, gardening on a budget or for free...
With the prices of groceries only going up over time, I want to share how I grow my own veggies for little to no cost :3
For starters, know what you eat! So if you eat a lot of beans, I would recommend getting some bean bushes! If you eat peppers, tomatoes, then we should focus on getting those planted.
YOU DO NOT NEED FERTILIZER, in my PERSONAL opinion, I think its a scam. By starting a compost pile, you can produce quality-soil that is balanced. I go to discount stores or go to home depot/lowes and get pots. You may use ANY CONTAINER! I see no reason that you can't use jars or whatever cups you have lying around. You can also go to Dollar Tree and get a bucket for a dollar or two. You can poke a hole in the bottom, or not! Get your container and fill with your soil, if you are early in composting,, you can even put the seeds in your new composter and grow the sprouts there and take the dirt and sprouts to a then cup, slowly sizing up as needed/when you can!
So seeds, you can go to Lowe's/Home Depot/Whenever,, and sure you can spend the $2-5 to get a package of seeds OR we can also eat something and then collect the seeds or if you eat peppers, put the whole damn thing in the dirt. Over time these seeds will sprout! Well, lets say you go with tomatoes, you don't want to spend the money on supporting beams, I get string and a straight-ish stick from the trees (Literally any) and will use these as supports! I will tightly pack the stick into the ground/my pot and then tie it (not too tightly) to give it the support to grow upwards. Of course over time you will need larger and more steady supports, but the cheapest route can give you time to save, a dollar each paycheck towards bamboo support beams or whatever you ultimately go with.
Extra tip, if you want your plants to grow more bush-like and not upwards, trim the top as it grows up so it will grow outwards and less upwards
