Frisbee time. That's Hatchet's space helmet, or as my husband calls it, the idiot window.
Also Tassie's happiest place is leaning heavily against me. Even better is being squeezed between both legs.
It's looking might I have to euthanize that harlequin rasbora with the deformed spine, yesterday I caught him spinning in the filter output unable to get himself out of the flow. I've been noticing the kink in his spine has slowly been bending backwards into a C shape. When I cupped him to keep an eye on him he spent about twenty minutes upside down before he could right himself. Not 100% sure if it's the spinal issue or illness, but the others are showing no signs and he's seemingly healthy otherwise. But this is why culling us a good thing with fish, it keeps fish with small issues from growing up and getting big issues later on. I pulled him out and stuck him back in quarantine with my newest batch, I'll see what happens this week and if he's not any stronger I'll cull him then. I don't have the space or resources to handle a crippled fish.
All told if I HADN'T owned Reese before I got Hatchet I would have been absolutely miserable owning him with all his constant bullshit and shenanigans and deliberate attempts to get into trouble. If I had only had Tassie, I would have been absolutely crushed wondering what I was doing wrong, why this working line isn't as good as my last working line, what's wrong with me, ect.
But I DID own Reese as my first introduction to working line shepherds, and if you've been following me that long you'd know that Reese was an absolute monster to handle, and while he had his moments he was also constantly dialed to 12 and was bullheaded and it took three actual years, six months before he died, to finally become a manageable dog. Compared to that Hatchet eating my floor and trying to dismantle my car is nowhere near as bad as Reese actually trying to severely maim me because I corrected his reactivity as a teen. At least Hatchet actually likes me and enjoys doing stuff with me vs Reese where we hated each other the first eight months I owned him.
I dunno, there's no point to this really. I'm just retroactively appreciating Reese for being my first working line because I don't think I could ever get worse than him and owning him has prepared me for a lot of difficult behavior. At the same time holy fuck WHY was he my first working line that was such an awful three years when I had him good god.
Ever go in to the hospital for a standard procedure and leave a lot more nervous than you went in because the tech doing the procedure took a LOT of images and when you comment on it she just chuckles once and runs out of the room without saying anything?
Anyways I can't wait to get the follow-up appointment.

For another kick in the teeth I came home from work and all of a sudden my tap water is brown. :( I do own my own house and I'm on a private well and I HAVE had cracked water lines before, but after a few simple tests I think I've narrowed it down to a bacterial bloom from the frankly absurd amounts of rain we've been getting. I set out a glass of water hours ago and absolutely nothing has settled at the bottom which rules out a cracked water line, because there would be silt, or a rusted pump, because rust would have settled out. The water pressure is fine as well and the pump isn't running more than usual either, which is good. Another point to bacteria is during my shower (I went out and bought drinking water) there was a very faint but noticeable odor to the water we've never had before. We DO have iron bacteria in our area, and the color of the water is the same orangey-brown, so I'm fairly certain it's a bacterial bloom.
The good news is that it's fairly easy to treat, just annoying and it takes a few days. I just have to pour bleach down the well and let it sit for a bit before flushing every water line in my house. Doable, just sucks to do in the middle of my work week. Gonna leave that glass of water out overnight just to be certain but if there's still nothing on the bottom in the morning I'll probably pour the bleach while I go out to do my chores, and start working through flushing the lines during the rest of the week.
I'm really hoping it's not another cracked line or a rusted pump, those are expensive repairs and after Reese it'd be a bit of a struggle.
Turn your volume up and enjoy the sound of tiny, horny frogs.
Added a second filter to my 55 since it’s technically overstocked and Petco had filters on sale. I got the Aqueon Quietflow 75, and I can tell you one thing about that level of quietness: it is loud as hell holy shit. I guess I got what I paid for. Also seems a bit of a money sink, they even have an LED light on it that turns red whenever you need to buy a new carbon cartridge. Took that shit right out and filled the inside with sponge. Between that and my Aquaclear 70 I’ve got about 700 GPH turnover right now? Seems a little high, but when I get either my own house or a better apartment I’ll be upgrading them to a 75, and at least the Aqueon comes with its own built-in baffle. I can already tell I’m going to growing algae like crazy on there though.
Gonna rescape next weekend after my vacation, see if I can find a damn CO2 tank anywhere in this city, and we’ll see how she goes!
