A/N: currently binge watching x men 97 PLEASE give me more gambit content pls marvel I'm willing to beg you on my knees. based on a screenshot I saw of a comic page. enjoy!
you're sitting on the couch, reading your book. it's dark outside, and the clock on the wall tells you it's way too late for you to be awake. you weren't a night owl, but this book was just too good. every time you want to put it away, a chapter ends in a cliffhanger. you couldn't bring yourself to close it without finding out what happened next.
the story is so good and you're so focused on it, you nearly jump out of your skin when you hear the door knob rattle.
it was late and remy wasn't home. he went out drinking with some of the other x-men. it wasn't often they were all free and in the same city, so you knew if it did happen, remy would usually stay out til late. not coming home til long after you'd gone to bed already.
you weren't expecting him to come home this early, so you're immediately on guard. slowly, you put your book down and creep closer to the front door. you grab the closest thing you can find to use as a weapon. you don't know how much damage a tissue box could do, but at the very least you could throw it at the intruder and run away.
remy had tried to teach you some self defence tricks in case something happened and he wasn't home, but he was nearly always right there with you, so you never really learned it.
you wish you had paid him more attention now.
as you get closer to the front door, you see a shadow silhouetted against the glass. and then you hear a voice, cursing while trying to open the door.
'merde... why won't this fucking key fit... fuck off...'
you unlock the door and open it. maybe a little too quickly, because remy all but stumbles into you. you barely manage to catch him.
when he looks up at you, he gives you a dazzling smile with his eyes half closed. 'hello, mon amour.' he says.
you laugh softly and roll your eyes as you shake your head. of course he'd stumble home drunk. you already know your evening is far from over when he's like this.
'come on.' you say. 'let's get you inside.'
remy does a spectacularly bad job at getting up. and he's heavy.
'remy.' you say, holding on to him. 'work with me here.'
you manage to get him inside and lock the door again. remy is looking at you with a smile on his face.
'I hadn't expected you back yet.' you say, walking into the kitchen.
remy follows you and grabs one of your hands with both of his.
'I missed you, chéri.' he says, pulling you close and nuzzling his face in your neck.
'we live together, remy. I saw you this afternoon.' you say.
you feel his lips press against the side of your neck. you briefly close your eyes and allow yourself to revel in the feeling. then you gently push him away.
you hear remy whine and turn to see him pout at you.
'you don't love me anymore?' he says.
'of course I do, my love.' you say. 'but you're drunk. you need to drink some water and go to bed.'
you grab a clean glass and walk over to the sink. as you're filling it up with water, you can sense remy's presence behind you. seconds later, you feel his hands on your hips and his chin on your shoulder.
you mange to turn around in his arms and hand him the glass of water.
'drink up.'
'can I get a kiss afterwards?'
you roll your eyes. you don't want to admit you think it's adorable when he's this handsy and affectionate. you would only encourage him and you really meant it: you wouldn't do anything when he's drunk. he'd do the same if the roles were reversed.
'sure, love, you can get a kiss afterwards.'
you have to hold back your laughter as remy's eyes light up and he downs the glass in one go. you smirk and blow him a kiss before he can lean in.
'hey, what the fuck! no fair!' he exclaims, frowning.
'come on.' you say, holding out your hand to him. 'let's go to bed.'
he all but stumbles over his feet in his haste to grab your hand and follow you.
'yeah, let's go to bed.' you hear remy say behind you. you can tell by the tone in his voice you two have different ideas about 'going to bed'.
'to sleep, remy.' you clarify.
he sighs so loudly you can feel his breath on the back of your neck. you smile to yourself, amused at how fast his moods change when he's drunk. and about the fact he's such a love sick puppy when he's had a few. that is, more of a love sick puppy than he normally is. god, he really loves you.
when you get to your bedroom, you motion for remy to sit down on the bed. you kneel down to untie his boots.
'loving this view, mon amour.' comes remy's voice from above you. 'you know I love it when you get on your knees for me.'
'I'm just taking off your boots.'
'sure you are.'
'I am, remy.'
'are you sure?'
'yes, I am sure.'
remy sighs dramatically and lets himself fall back onto the bed. you glance up at him and see how tight his pants are. of course he'd not only be overly affectionate, but also turned on.
you tug off his boots and socks, raising to your feet.
'stand up for me, please.' you say.
remy opens his eyes and smirks at you from his position on the bed.
'now this view, I like.'
'it's literally so late remy, come on, I want to go to bed.'
he takes a hold of the hand you offer him and lets you pull him to his feet. you reach out to undo his belt.
'wow, chéri, buy me dinner first.' remy mumbles above you. you can tell by his quiet voice he's ready to go to sleep but fighting to stay awake. you wonder how much of this he'll remember tomorrow.
after undoing his belt and helping him out of his pants, you tell him to put his arms up so you can pull his shirt over his head. he does what you ask and doesn't even make a flirty comment about it. that tells you his tiredness is really kicking in.
you briefly step away to get a pair of sweatpants and a shirt out of the closet. as you hand them to him, you allow remy to rest his hand on your shoulder as he puts on the pants you've given him. you let your eyes linger on his muscular chest as he puts on the shirt. you really did get lucky with him, even if he can't keep his hands off of you when he's drunk.
you gently guide him to the bed and help him lay down. you get into the bed next to him and feel how remy pulls you closer, burying his face in your neck.
'you will kiss me tomorrow, right?' he mumbles against your skin.
you run your hands lazily through his hair. 'if you aren't hungover as fuck, which I think you will be, then yes, I'll kiss you, my love.' you say.
'oh fuck yes.' he says, making you chuckle softly.
'goodnight, remy.' you say.
'sweet dreams, mon amour.' he says.
just as you expected, remy falls asleep within seconds. you lay there for a while, absently running your fingers through his hair and thinking about how much you love him, before you eventually fall asleep as well.
when you wake up in the morning, your chest feels heavy. you open your eyes to see remy has somehow put his entire body on yours during the night.
you stay like that for a while, until you can no longer deny you really want breakfast.
with some effort, you push remy off of you so you can get up. he's still asleep as you lean in and press a kiss to his cheek.
as you make breakfast, you're softly humming to yourself while you're in the kitchen.
your morning is quiet. you decide to let remy sleep for as long as he wants, maybe it would make his hangover less extreme.
just as you're making your lunch, you hear remy coming down the stairs. he stumbles into the kitchen, grumbling something in thick accented cajun you can't understand.
then he all but leans his entire body weight on you as he's standing behind you.
'why does the world hate me?' he says.
you laugh. 'good afternoon to you too, my love.'
'morning.' he mumbles. 'your voice is so loud, chéri.'
'this is the thanks I get for taking care of your drunk ass last night?'
'sorry. was I being an asshole?'
'no, just the usual. you couldn't keep your hands off of me.'
'you're used to that.'
'I am.'
you turn around. remy wraps his arms around you and drops his forehead to your shoulder.
'is this what dying feels like?' he mumbles.
'no, my love, this is what being extremely hungover feels like.' you say. 'you want coffee?'
'dear god no, the thought of it makes me want to throw up. I'll just lay on the couch.'
'you're so dramatic.' you say, gently taking a hold of his face and holding it in front of you.
remy closes his eyes and leans into your touch. 'this is making me feel better already.'
you lean in and press a kiss to the tip of his nose. when you pull back, he opens his eyes and smiles briefly at you. then he sways a bit on his feet and sucks in a sharp breath.
'still want to kiss me like you said yesterday?'
'oh, mon amour, I think if I stand really still and you don't move, the world stops spinning.'
you laugh at him as he groans, pressing one hand to his forehead. you decide to take it easy for the rest of the day. the two of you alternate between taking naps and you reading your book out loud to him. as the day passes, you can't help but to think that maybe a hungover remy isn't so bad. you secretly love how he refuses to leave your side when he's hungover.

Pairing: remy lebeau x reader
Summary: remy loses his beloved cards and you figure something out about him
Warnings: mentions of anxiety, mentions of blood/wounds (nothing big), remy is a lil sad :(
Word count: 1.5K
A/N: do I know anything about gambit or his lore? no. I do know I went to see deadpool & wolverine again and now I need him to call me chéri. enjoy!
you knew remy loved his cards. after a while you'd lost track trying to count them. in every pocket of every piece of clothing he owned, you'd find a deck of cards. it was an entire chore to empty all of his pockets before doing laundry. and still some of them would end up in the washing machine, and they'd come out all soggy and messed up.
if he would round them all up, you're sure he'd be able to fill an entire storage box. he always had at least one pack of cards on him.
but there was always that one favorite pack of cards. the one he took with him on missions, the one he always had on him "just in case".
and now it's missing.
ever since he found out he lost it, remy has been heartbroken.
you helped him search for it, turning the whole place upside down. remy was the first to give up the search. he told you he'd accepted the fact he lost them, but you knew he was just too sad to have lost them to keep on searching.
his powers didn't have anything to do with that specific deck of cards, they were simply his favorite. he'd had them since he was a kid, learned all of his skills with them. of course they were special to him.
you tried to cheer him up by getting him a new deck and talking about his other decks, but nothing seemed to help.
you'd noticed he'd grown more restless since losing the cards.
from the moment you met him, you had only ever seen him with a deck of cards in his hand. safe for the moments where he was doing something that required both of his hands. but his fingers were never far from the cards.
now that he's lost them, he's constantly holding on to other things. you'd never really considered remy to be a very anxious person, but he's fidgeting constantly now.
if you're sitting next to him he's playing with your fingers or the hem of your shirt. he's tapping patterns that make no sense to you on your thigh. he'd repeatedly tap his own fingertips against each other.
right now, he's sitting on the couch after getting back from a mission. he got a nasty cut on his forehead but otherwise he was fine. you just got back from fetching the first aid kit from the kitchen when you see him staring off into space while rapidly tapping his fingers on his leg.
'hey.' you say, sitting on the salon table in front of him.
he blinks a few times before his eyes settle on yours.
'you okay?' you ask.
remy nods, but you can tell something's bothering him. you decide to let it rest until after you take care of him. it can wait.
you scoot closer to him, opening the first aid kid.
'I'll need to clean it first, before I can bandage it.' you say softly. 'it might sting a little.'
'it's okay, chéri.' he says.
you carefully put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton wad and lean in. as you gently press it on his forehead, remy sucks in a breath and closes his eyes.
'sorry.' you say, as you start to slowly wipe the cotton wad over the wound to get rid of the dirt and blood.
you feel something on your leg and when you briefly glance down, you see remy is fidgeting with a loose thread of your pants. they were really his, but you stole them so long ago they're basically yours now. you always had to roll them up a couple of times before you could wear them, otherwise they were too long.
as you get out a fresh cotton wad, you notice remy still has his eyes closed. he really hasn't been the same since he lost his favorite deck of cards, and you're worried about him.
'remy?' you say.
he hums in response as you lean in to finish cleaning the wound on his forehead. you put the bloody cotton wad on the ground next to you so you can throw it away later.
'talk to me. what's going on?' you say.
'I didn't look where I was going, the knife barely missed me but it nicked me. I should-'
'I'm not talking about today's mission, love.'
remy opens his eyes and looks at you with a slight frown on his face. you give him a soft smile.
'you've been... different. and it's okay, I just want to know how I can help you. you haven't been yourself since you lost your favorite cards.'
he closes his eyes again and leans into your touch as you bandage his forehead. his fingers are still playing with your pants.
'they keep my mind off of things.' he says eventually.
'the cards?' you say.
remy nods. 'I've got something to do with my hands. I can think about the cards. not about... other stuff.'
'all done, my love.' you say, when you finish bandaging him up. you press a soft kiss to the bandage and look down to find remy looking up at you.
'thank you, mon amour.'
'you're welcome.'
you get up to put the first aid kit away and throw the trash out. then you get back to join remy on the couch.
his fingers immediately take a hold of yours as he starts to play around with them.
'you know, I never figured you for a very anxious person.' you say.
'I'm not.'
'baby, you can't keep your finger still. and when you're doing something with both of your hands, your leg is always bouncing up and down.'
remy frowns. 'I do that?'
'it's usually something people do subconsciously. then again, being the gambit is a pretty stressful job.'
'I guess.'
you turn to look at remy. 'you really miss your cards, huh?'
'chéri, you have no idea.' sighs remy.
'I'm sorry we didn't find them.' you say.
'it's not your fault.' says remy, leaning in to press a soft kiss to your cheek. he knows it's not anyone's fault but his own. he probably lost them somewhere outside, because they did search the entire house. every cabinet and under every piece of furniture.
'how about we watch a movie? try to get your mind off of it for at least an hour or two?' you suggest.
'sure, alright.' says remy.
'you pick the movie, I'll get the snacks.' you say, getting up to go to the kitchen.
you get out a bowl and half a bag of popcorn. you dump it in the bowl and stuff the empty package in the trash, which is nearly overflowing. knowing it'll only annoy you in the morning, you let out a sigh as you take it out.
after taking it out of the bin - which took more effort than you would have liked - you close it and take it out the backdoor. just as you throw it in the larger bin outside, something purple catches your eye.
you walk over to where it is sticking out from under the bin. as you drag the bin away so you can take a closer look, you see a familiar rectangular box.
remy's beloved cards. his very favorite deck.
you quickly snatch it up and head back inside.
when you get back to the living room you see remy has picked one of your favorite movies.
'hey.' he says, glancing over his shoulder at you. 'no snacks?'
'I've got something better.' you say.
remy looks over his shoulder again and his eyes land on your bright smile, then drop to your hands.
'tada!' you say. 'found them outside under the bin! I knew we didn't lose them and they had to be around somewhere so I-'
you're cut off when remy grabs your face and kisses you. you hadn't even noticed him getting up and walking to you in two quick and long strides.
'mon amour, you're the best!' he says, smiling at you. he kisses you again and you can feel he's still smiling.
he pulls back and takes the deck of cards you're holding up for him. instantly, he takes them out of the case and twirls them around, throwing them in the air and catching them again.
you watch as his face lights up. you're so glad he's got his favorite cards and he looks like your remy again. you watch him for a while, following the cards with your eyes.
eventually, he puts them away and pulls you against his chest, making you laugh as he hugs you tight.
'oh, what would I do without you?' he says as he pulls back slightly so he can look at you.
'well you'd have to find someone new to fix you up after a fight. and to find your cards. and take care of-'
'alright, alright, I get it, I'm nothing without you.'
'and don't you forget it.'
'I won't, chéri, I promise you I never will.'

Request: yes! "Your writing for gambit is so good omg 😭❤️ single handedly feeding me rn!! I was wondering if you would write Gambit with a S/O that has one huge tattoo? Lol I got a sea serpent tattoo last year that crawls up from my arm and onto my chest and it’s my absolute pride and joy!! I’m so curious what Remy’s reaction would be to that 👁️👁️"
Pairing: remy lebeau x x-men!reader (reader has the ability to manipulate plants and tree roots and use them as shields/weapons)
Summary: when you get hurt during a mission and remy takes care of you, he finds out about your tattoo
Warnings: mentions of fighting, violence, injuries (reader gets injured), blood, dizziness, tattoo's, angst
Word count: 1.6K
A/N: anon getting this request made me realise yes I do need a new tattoo (I'm literally broke and unemployed). enjoy!
being part of the x-men meant you always had to be ready. even if you were spending a cozy afternoon with remy in one of the gardens of the mansion. apparently the newest set of power hungry villains didn't care if you had the day off.
it's how you find yourself - after complaining about it a great deal - strapped in on the jet less than twenty minutes after you got all but hauled inside the mansion by beast.
remy is sitting next to you, long legs stretched out in front of him and crossed at the ankle, hands tucked behind his head.
'don't fret, chéri, we'll be in and out in no time.' says remy.
even though you had been dating for a short while now, it still made you blush when remy called you nicknames. and he knew it. he's smirking at you now, noticing your reddened cheeks.
'that's what you said last time, and we were there for an entire day cleaning up messes.' you say.
remy merely shrugs. 'I've got a good feeling about this one.'
'alright you lovebirds, can we focus? I'm taking her down.' says scott from the front of the jet.
once you all get out of the jet to assess the situation, you can feel remy's presence next to you.
'bet I can take out more than you, chéri.' he whispers in your ear.
'you're on.' you say.
you and remy are instructed by scott to take care of the villains on the ground while the others get the people trapped in the surrounding buildings to safety.
as the team splits up, you and remy run towards a small group of people who randomly shooting around, creating panic and chaos.
at first, you thought they were just low level criminals, but then you notice the kinds of guns they carry.
'remy!' you yell.
you're quick to manipulate the soil, making tree roots shoot up from the ground that knock remy out of the way but gently lower him to the ground behind a few upturned cars.
'that's sentinel tech.' you say once you catch up with him.
'merde.' he says, shaking his head. 'how do they always get their hands on that? ready to take them out?'
'let's go.' you say, flexing your fingers and making the soil beneath your feet rumble slightly.
remy winks at you before taking off.
the two of you work together to get take out the group currently focusing all of their fire on you. as long as the others got all the people in the buildings to safety, they could point their guns at you all they like.
you and remy move quickly through and around the group with practised ease. while you're focusing on the fight, you can hear remy make witty remarks.
'hey, chéri!' you hear him call.
as you crush a guy's windpipe by wrapping roots around his neck, you quickly shoot him a glance.
'I'm up to seven!' he says, holding up one of his cards, which is a seven of hearts.
'get your head out of the counting, remy!' you say, dodging a blow from your next attacker.
'you got less than gambit?' you hear him say somewhere in the distance.
'I got nine!' you shout.
you hear him curse, then you hear two short explosions before remy appears in your line of sight with a smirk on his face, holding up a card with the number ten on it.
'showoff.' you say, but you smile.
remy winks at you before taking off after a few men who had the sense to run away.
as you follow him, you fail to notice one guy wasn't entirely knocked out. you're too late to notice him. he quickly gets close to you and slashes a knife through your side.
you yell out in pain as your knees threaten to give up on you. you quickly turn around to throw a sharp wooden dagger at him, but your aim is off.
from the corner of you eye, you see a flash of purple and moments later a sharp card hits your attacker square in the forehead, making him crumble to the ground.
you distantly hear someone yell your name as you sway on your feet, a wave of dizziness taking over you. you blindly reach out for something to steady you when your hands find something warm and solid.
remy has caught you in his arms. he's worriedly looking down at you, then notices your side.
'oh, merde...' he says, gently prodding your side.
you suck in a sharp breath at the wave of pain spreading from your ribs. as a reflex, you tighten your hold on remy's arms.
'j'excuse, chéri, hold on, gambit's gonna take care of you.' he says.
before he can say anything else, a shot narrowly misses him. remy quickly throws a handful of cards with his free hand that isn't holding you up.
'cyclops!' he yells. 'I need backup! we got one man down!'
you can hear remy's voice both above you and in your earpiece. you hear scott's answer as remy reaches down to pick you up.
as another sharp burst of pain shoots through your body, you glance down. one of your sides is soaked in blood. the knife had ripped a large gash through your uniform.
you frown at it, you loved your uniform. and now it's ruined. you look up to remy, who is holding you into his arms as he runs toward the jet. he's talking to you, but it's like you can't understand him. you close your eyes to fight off the dizziness, but remy lightly taps your cheek.
'non, mon amour, you can't close your eyes. keep them open for remy, yeah?' he says.
mon amour. that's a new one.
you weakly nod at him.
you see a flash of red as scott runs past you.
'beast!' says remy. 'we got medical supplies on the yet?'
'yes!' comes beast's instant reply. you reach up to take the earpiece out, the sound is too loud and harsh to bear. you're so comfortable in remy's arms, who is trying the best to keep you steady as he runs to the jet as fast as he can.
you hear remy talk to beast as he enters the jet and gently lowers you onto a chair. he reclines the chair so you're more comfortable.
'I'll be right back, chéri.' he says with a kiss to your forehead.
you can hear him rummage around somewhere behind you as you're fighting to keep your eyes open. the pain in your side had shrunk down to a dull ache, but you could tell blood was still coming out of the wound.
remy comes back, carrying a bag of medical supplies with him.
'this ain't gonna be pretty.' he says as he moves closer to you.
'just get it over with.' you say.
'you just keep talking to me, yeah?'
'sure.'
'bien. here we go.'
remy reaches into the bag and gets out a pair of fabric scissors. he hesitates briefly. the two of you hadn't been dating for very long. not much had happened besides the occasional make out session. you'd seen remy without a shirt when you would play basketball with the team, but remy had never seen you without a shirt. suddenly it all felt too quickly.
'it's okay, love.' you say, bringing him out of his hesitation. 'I trust you.'
he nods at you before carefully cutting your uniform off of you. when he has cut away the biggest part of the top half of your uniform, his eyes fall to your body.
not the wound, but rather the other side.
a tattooed serpent that slithers from your rib cage over your shoulder and disappears into the sleeve remy hadn't cut off.
instead of checking the wound, remy trails his fingers softly over your tattoo. you watch as his eyes follow the pattern of ink. you would have thought you were shy and nervous to be sitting here shirtless with remy. but you loved your tattoo. the design is beautiful, and it means a lot to you.
'so that's what you've been hiding beneath that suit of yours.' he murmurs.
'you like it?' you say softly. while you loved your tattoo, there had been different kinds of reactions from people who saw it.
'chéri... it's beautiful.' says remy, soothing your worries.
'I almost feel bad for having to cover it up.' says remy, reaching out to get out the medical supplies.
'don't worry, you'll get to look at it plenty after I've healed.' you say.
'really?'
'yeah, of course. if you'd still have me with a giant scar on my side.'
'I'm with you til the end, mon amour. now let's get you fixed up.' says remy, leaning in to press a kiss to your cheek. 'in the meantime, tell me the story how you got it, hm? need you to stay awake for me.'
'alright.' you say softly, and you start telling the story of how you got the tattoo as remy works on cleaning the wound and bandaging you up.
when he wraps the binding around your chest, you can tell his hands linger on your tattoo, tracing its outlines.
you close your eyes and lean back as remy secures the bandage. you feel how he lightly taps your forehead, then presses a kiss to the tip of your nose.
'all done, chéri.' he says.
his voice sounds close, and when you open your eyes, you see his face right in front of you.
you smile tiredly at him. 'can I sleep now?'
remy smiles back at you. 'oui, mon amour.'
'stay here?'
'always.'
you feel how remy gently traces your tattoo again as you drift off to sleep.

Pairing: remy lebeau x mutant!reader (reader has the ability to manipulate and control electricity)
Summary: remy thinks you have trouble controling your powers, but there’s something else going on
Warnings: none!
Word count: 1.6K
A/N: to think this is the third fic I’m writing today and I also finished reading the darkness within us and read and finished what moves the dead… no wifi making me do crazy things lmao enjoy!
as remy walks into the kitchen, he notices the lights briefly flicker and the coffee machine starts beeping furiously.
‘oh, fuck!’ you say, abandoning your breakfast as you bolt over to the coffee machine.
you put your hands on either side of it and concentrate, making sure the machine’s temperature goes back to normal. remy waits for you to step back before reaching for the coffee pot.
‘I’m not gonna burn my mouth now?’ he says.
‘nope, you’re all good.’ you say, briefly smiling at him before you go back to your breakfast.
jubilee gives you a knowing smile as she nods her head towards remy. you elbow her in the side, shooting her a warning glare. you never should have confided in her about your feelings for remy. it’s bad enough you nearly lose control whenever he enters the room. you don’t need jubilee to start dropping hints around him.
remy doesn’t seem to notice any of it, as he’s rummaging through the kitchen in search for breakfast. you ignore jubilee’s not so subtle nudges as you continue to eat your breakfast.
for the remainder of the morning, no lights flicker and no coffee machines overheat.
as you go on about your day, teaching some of the kids, remy has been thinking hard.
those flickering lights haven’t gone completely unnoticed to him. every time he enters the room you’re in, the lights flicker and if there’s some sort of machine or electronic device, it also acts up. the same thing happens when you enter a room he’s already in.
the electric stove that suddenly turned on in the kitchen. the tv turning on while no one was holding the remote. beasts’ many monitors that all started beeping at the same time – and you apologising over and over, making sure there wasn’t any damage.
and always those flickering lights.
but he knows you regularly go to the danger room to train. mostly with jean, storm and jubilee. occasionally scott calls for the entire team to have a training session, and remy always watches you closely during those sessions.
you never seem to lose control during a simulation. and he has yet to see you lose control in the field.
if anything, he’s impressed by your abilities.
the things you could accomplish never fail to amaze him. in his opinion, you’re one of the best and most amazing x-men he’s ever seen. not that he would ever admit that out loud. the teasing would be endless. and he doesn’t want to embarrass you.
still, it doesn’t sit right with him the way you sometimes slip up.
is it something about him? does he bother you somehow?
he’s so lost in his thoughts, he doesn’t notice the conversation stops when he enters the kitchen again in the afternoon.
remy looks up to see jubilee, scott and jean. he raises a single eyebrow in question, but no one explains anything, and jubilee starts talking about the latest session in the danger room she did with roberto.
while getting a snack, remy can’t help but to think he was a topic of conversation before he walked in.
‘hey cyclops, you gon’ work with y/n on controlling her powers?’ he says.
scott frowns at his words. ‘why would I?’
‘she always loses control when I see her.’ remy points out. ‘just this morning she nearly made the coffee machine overheat and combust. jubilee, you were there.’
‘have you ever seen her lose control during a mission?’ says scott.
‘non, but it doesn’t make sense why she would lose control in the kitchen and not when there’s people actively trying to kill us.’ says remy.
at his words, jubilee chuckles.
‘you never noticed?’ she says.
‘noticed what?’ says remy, confused.
‘jubilee, he’s a man. they never do.’ says jean, before turning to remy. ‘she only ever slightly slips up when you enter the room. why do you think that is?’ she says gently
‘que? only when I enter the room? why? I thought she was just jumpy, maybe I move too quietly?’ says remy.
‘come on, gambit, use those brains of yours, you’ll figure it out.’ says jubilee.
remy starts thinking out loud. ‘she only slips up when I’m in the room. or when she walks in and I’m already there. she never loses control in the field. oh, merde, does she like me?’
‘there you go! took you long enough.’ says jubilee.
‘she likes me?’ mumbles remy, smiling to himself.
‘she’s in her room.’ says jean pointedly.
‘oui, yeah, merci.’ says remy, a bit dazed as he leaves the kitchen.
he had never once considered you might like him, and that that’s why you lose control. it makes sense now that he knows. in the field, you’re too concentrated on staying alive to focus on where he is and if he’s near.
and he did notice you seemed to blush a lot whenever the lights flickered. you thought it was just embarrassment that your control slipped, but what if it was about him?
of course he’d noticed you when you first arrived at the mansion. how could he not? you were beautiful and he’d seen you demonstrate your powers when logan asked about it.
now that he knows all of it, he doesn’t get how he didn’t see it before. clearly everyone knew but him? but why hadn’t you said anything to him?
as he reaches the top of the stairs, he sees the door to your room ahead.
what was he even going to say to you? maybe he’ll just start by asking you about your powers, maybe you were aware of why you lose control.
he knocks on the door.
‘coming!’ he hears you say.
‘it’s me.’ says remy.
the light spilling onto the hallway through the gap near the floor flickers slightly, and remy smiles to himself.
you open the door and smile at him.
‘remy!’ you say. ‘what’s up?’
since that conversation earlier with jubilee and jean, it’s like he sees you in a different light. your hair is up, and the sleeves of your shirt are rolled up. when he looks closely, he sees a slight blush on your cheeks.
‘just came to check up on you. and tell you the coffee machine is okay.’ he says.
‘oh ha ha.’ you say sarcastically. ‘thanks very much for that update.’
you step aside to let him in. he notices the workbench in the corner of the room, scattered with various pieces of machinery. a steaming mug shows that you were working on something.
‘did I disturb you?’ he says.
‘not at all, I was just messing around.’
‘you control electricity, right?’
you frown. everyone knows about everyone’s abilities. there aren’t any secrets about powers.
‘and create it, yes.’
‘and you’ve been training for a long time.’
‘yes? what are you getting at, remy?’
‘why do you lose control when I’m around?’ he says, not dancing around it any longer.
‘I don’t.’ you say, hoping he doesn’t see through the lie.
there’s no way he knows, right? he can’t. unless, of course, he talked to jubilee. damn that girl and her traiterous mouth.
‘come on, chéri, don’t deny it.’ says remy.
you briefly look at him before you reach out to toy with some of the machinery on your workbench. you mumble something remy can’t hear, so he steps closer to you.
‘what was that?’ he says.
you swallow and look at him. ‘I have issues controling my powers whenever I’m around someone I have very strong feelings for.’ you admit in a soft voice. ‘it’s how I knew I was a mutant in the first place. I nearly electrocuted my first boyfriend.’
‘strong feelings, hm?’ says remy, stepping even closer to you.
‘remy, I’m trying so hard not to burst every light in this room right now.’ you say. ‘you’re making it very difficult like this.’
‘like what?’
‘like this.’ you say, gesturing to the small amount of space between the two of you.
‘but you admit you have, in your words, strong feelings for me?’
‘yes…’
‘parfait. I have strong feelings for you too, chéri.’
your eyes snap up to his upon hearing his words.
‘please tell me you’re not messing with me.’ you say. ‘because if you are, it really isn’t funny.’
remy lightly shakes his head. ‘non, I would never.’ he says.
you notice how close his face is to yours and take a tenative step back, but your back hits your workbench.
‘nervous?’ he says.
‘no.’ you say.
the lights in your room briefly flicker.
remy smirks at you. ‘the lights say something different, chéri. would the lights explode if I kiss you now?’
you feel a blush on your cheeks. ‘I don’t know.’ you say softly.
‘want to find out?’ says remy, leaning closer.
‘yeah.’ you manage to say.
remy closes the remaining space between you, pressing his lips against yours. you’re glad the workbench is at your back, because you’re sure your knees have given up on you.
you feel how his hands come to rest on your hips. through your closed eyelids, you can tell the lights are indeed flickering, and you can feel remy smile against your lips.
but you don’t give a damn about those lights. because remy lebeau is finally kissing you. you couldn’t care less if all the lights burst in the mansion. it’ll be worth it.

as you're walking through the busy street, you mentally curse yourself for not going to the bank beforegetting your groceries. and you wish you had taken a bigger bag with you.
you're holding your bag in one hand but it's heavy, and you're slightly tilted to your right side as you walk. every now and then you have to stop to shove a box of pasta back in there so it doesn't fall out.
you just really hope there isn't a huge line at the bank. right now, you just want to get home. remy is coming over tonight and he's going to teach you how to make one of his signature recipes.
as you round the corner and see the bank, you sigh when you see the line is so long people are waiting outside. of course everyone had decided to go to the bank today.
you take your place in line behind the last person, hoping the line will at least move quickly so you can go home and put your groceries away.
the line moves slowly until finally you're actually inside the bank. you stand on your toes to look at the desks ahead and see the reason why the line is moving so slow: only half of the desks have employees sitting behind them.
you're seriously doubting going home and going to the bank tomorrow. but you're about halfway through the line now, you might as well stay. even if it meant your milk being outside the fridge for a while longer.
you're zoning out, occasionally shuffling forward in line, when you hear a commotion behind you.
as you look over your shoulder, you see a group of masked people shove their way into the bank. you're about to roll your eyes and turn back when you notice one of them is holding a very large, very dangerous looking gun.
of course they had to pick today.
as more people realise what's going on, panic spreads as people start to scream and run away. you drop your bag of groceries and run away, towards the desks and away from the armed men.
one of the employees shoots you a terrified look as you jump over the desk, pulling her down with you.
that's when the gunfire starts.
you squeeze your eyes shut and clamp your hands over your ears, trying to drown out the sounds of bullets hitting flesh and bodies dropping.
you feel someone grab a hold of your arm and open your eyes slightly to see the bank employee clutching your arm, a terrified expression on her face that mirrors your own.
'it's gonna be okay.' you whisper, hoping you sound braver than you feel. 'what's your name?'
'katie.' she says.
you notice she's not much older than you.
'I'm y/n. we'll get through this okay?' you say and katie nods at your words. 'we're just going to stay here and keep silent.'
you shuffle closer to her beneath the desk, as the gunfire finally stops. katie shoots you a terrified look as you put you hand over your nose and mouth, trying to silence the sound of your rapid breathing.
'we'll be in and out!' yells an unfamiliar voice from somewhere in the bank. 'just need an employee to help us out.'
you hear the sounds of several people walking around, mixed with the sounds of people breathing heavily. you're too scared to think about how many people are bleeding on the floor.
'no one wants to volunteer?' says the same voice. 'how about we play a little hide and seek?'
you and katie try to stay as silent as possible, holding onto each other, as the sound of footsteps comes closer. eventually, they stop. way too close to you.
suddenly, a face appears over the edge of the desk above you. you can't help but to let out a small, frightened yelp.
'got ya!' says the masked man above you.
his head tilts towards katie. even though he's wearing a mask, you can see him smile.
'hello miss...' he leans in closer to katie, who's got silent tears running down her cheeks, dripping from her chin onto her uniform. 'katie. what a lovely name, want to help us out?'
both you and katie are frozen in fear. then the man suddenly grabs a hold of katie's arm and pulls her up.
'no!' you yell, reaching out to grab a hold of her other hand.
but the robber slams the back of his gun into your head. you fall back, pressing a hand to your forehead. it comes away sticky with blood.
you see how katie struggles in the guy's arms. she manages to hit him in the eye and he swears and drops her arm. just as she runs away, the sound of a gun being fired fills the room and katie crumbles to the floor.
you watch in horror as she looks at you, seems the mumble something, before she stops moving at all. you're breathing heavily, your eyes glued to hers.
there's more commotion outside, but your eyes are still on katie.
suddenly, the sound of many guns fill the air and you tear your eyes away from the girl in front of you. you see a flash of red.
you crawl over to the other side of the desk and look around it. the red flash was scott. you recognise him in his signature cyclops suit. if the x-men are here, maybe that means-
'oh, you gon' pay for that, mon ami!'
you swear you burst into tears again at the sound of remy's voice. you say his name, but it comes out as barely a whisper, and the sounds in the room are so loud.
you close your eyes and pull your knees up to your chest, wrapping your arms around them. you desperately wish for all of this to be over. you wish it was all a bad dream and you'd wake up.
suddenly, a harsh hand grabs a hold of your arm and pulls you to your feet. an arm encircles your body, holding you firmly against a chest. you let out a gasp of surprise as you feel a gun being pressed to your temple.
you close your eyes, not wanting to see anything. it's a bad decision. it makes you focus on the sounds in the room and the feel of the cold gun against your skin.
'chéri!' comes remy's familiar voice.
you open your eyes and see him standing a few feet away, card at the ready between his fingers.
'what are you doing here?' he says.
you look into his eyes, focusing on them. you want to answer him, but it's like you lost your ability to talk.
'let her go!' says remy, dangerously twirling the card between his fingers.
'here's what's going to happen.' comes your attacker's voice from behind you. 'I am going to walk out of here with this pretty lady, and you two are going to let me. If I see you move, she's dead.'
you whimper in fear as the guy starts slowly walking towards the exit, pulling you with him.
remy and scott both look at you, but stand still. they know the risk is too great. but you don't miss the look of absolute loathing remy gives your capturer. then his eyes soften as they land on you. he nods at you, as if trying to tell you it'll all be alright.
as soon as you're outside, you're pulled into an alley, away from the curious onlookers on the other side of the street.
'those damn mutants ruin everything.' says the guy in your ear.
you hear running footsteps behind you.
'I said move and she's dead!' yells the robber.
in one quick move, he turns you around and you see remy sprinting towards you.
the next moment, you see remy throw a card your way at the same time you feel something hard and cold against your head and the world goes black.
when you open your eyes again, bright lights shine in your face. you squeeze them shut, noticing the way your head is pounding. slowly, you open your eyes again, letting them adjust to the light.
once you can look around without the bright lights irritating you, you take in your surroundings. you appear to be in a hospital. you can hear the faint beeping of a monitor on your right.
the view out the window shows a bright sunny day, and some of the tall buildings in the city. you slowly reach your hand up. you feel a bandage encircling your head. from the way your head is pounding, you can tell the guy really hit you hard in the head.
when you look to your left, your eyes land on a chair next to your bed. or rather, the person in it.
it looks like remy didn’t go back to the mansion after the robbery. his suit is dirty, as are his fingers. his hair is a mess, and from the way he’s sitting in the chair, you can tell his back is going to hurt.
he’s fast asleep.
‘you look lke shit.’
at the sound of your voice, remy wakes. he blinks a few times before sitting up straight, rolling his head from side to side to ease some of the stiffness in his neck.
‘quoi?’ he says, crossing his arms over his chest and closing his eyes to go back to sleep.
‘I said you look like shit.’ you repeat.
remy’s eyes snap open suddenly as he looks at you. instantly, he’s by your side.
‘I look like shit? you’re the one in a hospital bed, mon amour.’
you smile tiredly at him, reaching out to lace your fingers with his. remy runs his thumb over the back of your hand.
‘it’s good you still have your sense of humor, but you scared me, chéri.’ he admits softly.
‘I’m sorry, my love. I didn’t mean to.’
‘it was real close. when that guy hit you in the head and I saw you fall to the floor… merde, it was awful. luckily we got beast. he helped the doctors here.’
‘give him my thanks, will you?’
remy nods, bringing your hand up to kiss the back of it. he eyes the bandage on your head.
remy looks at you, and you can tell there’s something on his mind. he’d never been good about hiding his thoughts from you.
‘what’s on your mind, love?’ you say.
‘come live at the mansion with me.’ he says.
‘what?’ you chuckle.
‘I’m serious. if we hadn’t showed up on time, I don’t want to think about what could have happened. come live at the mansion with me, you’d be safe. and I’m tired of seeing you only when our schedules line up.’
you look him in the eye. remy smiles at you. he’s really serious about this. he wants you to move in with him. to move to the mansion where he lives with his fellow mutants.
‘remy, I’m not with the x-men, I’m not a mutant.’
‘you don’t have to be.’
‘what would I even do there?’
‘teach the kids?’
‘teach them what?’
‘we’ll find something.’
‘remy… you’re really serious?’
he leans in and kisses your forehead. you close your eyes, savoring the feeling of his lips against your skin.
‘oui, chéri, I’m serious. I don’t want to be apart from you.’
‘and the team is okay with it?’
‘they will be.’
‘why am I not surprised you haven’t asked them yet?’
‘come on, they love you. I’m sure the kids will, too. we’ll find something for you to do, I promise. I just want want to be away from you.’
‘alright. we’ll talk it over with scott and jean. and I’ll have to talk to my boss and my landlord. we’ll figure it out.’
remy smiles at you and kisses your hand again. ‘get some rest, mon amour. I’ll be here when you wake up.’
