long boarding in the gables! any takers?

I was watching Good Morning America this morning and saw a story about Karen Klein, a school bus monitor in NY who was relentlessly bullied on a school bus by middle school students. The 68 year-old tries to ignore these bullies, but they end up making her cry eventually. 

According the crowd funding website Indiegogo, she makes a measly $15,506 a year to monitor school buses. The website has started a campaign to give her a vacation. Their goal was $5,000 and by this morning, they have already raised close to $191,000. 

The heat has come to Va, and no, we're not talking about the Miami Heat Basketball team. According to weather.com, there is a heat advisory warning  until 10pm tonight. Here are some tips extracted from RealSimple.com to beat the heat! 

1. Place a shallow bowl of ice near the fan and enjoy the breeze

2. Keep a spray bottle in the fridge and when it get's really hot, give yourself a spritz. 

3. Run the fan and ac at the same time. AC removes the humidity and the fan will help evaporate sweat and move heat from your body. 

4. Put your computer to sleep when you aren't using it. Computers tend to give off a lot of heat. 

Starbucks, from June 1st-10th is inviting the world to be (RED) during the 10 days dedicated to fighting AIDS. You can "Check-in" to Starbucks using Four Square on your phone and Starbucks will donate $1 (up to $250,000) to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS. You can find your closest Starbucks here. 

                                 For those of you unfamiliar with Four Square, it is an application that allows you to "Check-in" to locations and receive points to compete with others. Sometimes, businesses will have deals if you check in (Ex. Check in here and receive 10% off your bill). If you have checked in the most at a certain establishment, you can even become The Mayor and have your name in lights!
