The escalator. That may be an unusual answer but seriously, think of a product that can still be used and accomplishes its goal when it’s broken. If you can rattle off more than two without much thought, then bravo otherwise, you must give the escalator its dues. I did not come to that revelation until I went grocery shopping with my girlfriend two weeks ago. The escalator we often use in place of taking the stairs (don’t judge us) was not working. But this time, it did not have tape in front of it, restricting people from using it. Instead of walking a little bit further to take the stairs we decided to just walk up the stairs and that’s when I was enlightened. The ingenuity of the escalator is something we take for granted without even thinking about it. It is one of the few products that is multi-purpose and still ‘works’ when broken.
