It is a thing that anyone with magic can do. Monsters have an easier time but humans with magic can also fuse. Same for monsters/mages with nonmagical humans but in that case the fusion doens't last long as the magic user needs to bare the full burn of all the energy that is used in fusion.

But what is fusion? In FusionAU (I will one day make up an actual name for my AUs. Today is not the day however.) it is just a way to showcase a relationship. ANY RELATIONSHIP.

Fusion is not sexual. Or something done with only lovers. It is like. a Very intense hug. You can almost compare it to how cats will sometimes just lay on top of each other with their entire weight. THAT sort of hug.

The reason it is a way to show relationships is because the relationship between the people who fuse make how stable the fusion is.

Important. The strength of the fusion has nothing to do with the relationship or the stability.

Strength =/= Stability.

The relationship affects how stable the fusion is. The individuals affect how strong the fusion is.

Example.

A parent and child (assuming this is a normal and healthy parent/child situation) will be one of the most stable fusions there is. Just not strong.

Nightmare and Dream will have an unbelievable strong fusion, one of the strongest. Just not stable because of their history and rocky relationship.

The fusion between individuals will remain the same person. But if the fusion grows unstable the fusion will corrupt/mutate to show the decaying relationship. in turn. if a relationship only grows more stable and stable the fusion will reflect this in being able to remain fused longer easier.

Stable fusions take very little energy/magic form the individuals to remain together. unstable fusions break apart much quicker.

Before anything else. a bit of worldbuilding (love me some world building)

Mostly. Especially wiht the ability to fuse and grow EVEN stronger? To live in peace on the surface monsters had to categorise each fusion. Well not each, because each would be a much too long list.

When the multiverse became a known thing and even MORE powerful individuals appeared and started to fuse this also included them. (so there is a task force going around doing this stuff. I imagine that some multiverse alphys and undynes work together on this. Add papyrus as undyne's bestie. maybe mettaton as well because security.)

But viable fusions. Which means. a fusion that can exist. That is viable.

People who never ever met before and have zero relationship of connection, are very VERY unlikely to be able to fuse together. Much less form a stable fusion. Seeing as fusion is a combination of their combined magic, but also a form which showcases their relationship.

No relationship. No stable fusion.

(there HAS been emergencies before. Were strangers could manage to fuse over a shared common goal. a shared determination if it were. but it is rare and after the event they can not fuse again unless they spend a long time together connecting.)

Viable fusions are fusions that people can actually form and stay stable for a little while.

The viable fusions are split into two categorises.

- Stable fusions. - unstable fusions.

very unoriginal but it is what makes the difference. Stable fusions are the fusions were a new person comes to be. A new person is formed which happens to be a combination of two people. With their own thoughts and feelings.

Unstable fusions are still a combination of the two individuals. but both people remain existing. So it is as if both of the people fused are trying to control the one body.

(it is posisble for more than two people to fuse. But it is rare as it makes the fusion harder to be stable and exist. As it adds many different dynamics which all directly effect the fusion. again. it is possible. but rare)

Every fusion gains a new name. The stable fusions tell people their names themselves. unstable fusions are named by the people who made the fusion up.

Unstable fusions are unable to be reasoned with while they are fused. As each part of the fusion will try to give his/her/their/its opinion which may go against another part of the fusion. Which can cause the fusion to fall apart quicker.

Stable fusions are harder to break apart as there is a new person who will not have an internal struggle when being communicated with. The time that a fusion is stable depends on the people their are a fusion off.

Each viable fusion is categorised into a few aspects. Which pretty mcuh showcases their risk level.

Allignment. before the truce this was a much more important stat and because of that the first to study. These are clarified with the Good/neutral/evil split together with lawful/neutral/chaotic split (yes it is the dnd system and no i do not take critic on this) however. this is highly opinionated and often people with different morals will discuss this heavily. example. Nightmare, error and reaper were all put into the chaotic evil for a long time. Then people started to realise reaper is just doing his job and reaper was lawful evil for a while before he was changed to lawful neutral. Meanwhile error and nightmare it took until long after the truce was established before people were even willing to hear that they were also doing mulitverse balance jobs. again. subjective and opinionated. but it is still kept up to give a general energy. even if people often call it Vibe Check now.

Stamina.

Stamina in this case refers to how long the fusion can remain fused. Seeing as there is always some sort of timelimit and no fusion cna last forever as the fusion takes energy and magic from the original parts which can exhaust them. is one part of the fusion exhausted the fusion falls apart. the known record of a fusion is about a week. and this record is of a non-combative fusion

Attack.

both physcial and magical attack. prett ymuch how hard the fusion can hit you. There will be a note on this if it is more physical and weapon hits, magical hits, or if the fusion is proficient with both.

defence.

Same as attack. this stat is about both the physical and magical defensive abilities. it matters a great deal if the fusion can handle hits or will try to not get hit at all. It will also show any notes of immunities here.

Agility.

Speed and agility. The ability of dodging or how mobile the fusion is and how quick they are. there will also be notes of teleportation or other ways people can travel here.

Special.

This is different for every fusion. Some gain unique abilities thanks to the combinations. The new attack or magic or protection will be noted and scored with how high of a risk it is.

these 5 stats combine to a risk level. 10 levels for each stat. max threat level is 50.

the from also holds information on who makes the fusion up, if this is known.

Also if the fusion has any known weaknesses. also include any plans to stop the fusion if needed. As they are very strong there is a lot of trust at play for them all to work together. but there has to be some sort of plan. especially as they just got out of the war betwene dream and nightmare.

This is all in case of an emergency if a fusion goes rogue. This doens't mean that everyone just. enjoys sharing information. Most of the information this task force has is thanks to the Stars and them keeping records from their own fights. or what they know OF their own fusions. but not everything is known.

The files are locked away in a safe and kept from the general public. For safety reasons. But if someone were to go rogue, the stronger players in the multiverse know these files exist, and can go to the task force to gain information against the fusion to enable them to stop it.

Even if a fusion is just temporary. a fusion made of gods can do a lot of permanent damage in a very short time. even if the fusion falls aaprt this damage is permanent. Which means they have to be ready jsut in case.

There hasn't been a case just yet. For now the files are used to figure out which fusion can help wiht larger multiverse issues so they can inform the right people to handle things.
