I'm watching Chronicles of Riddick and just realized something I'd never caught onto before. It's not sci-fi. It looks like it and draws heavily on it, but it's not sci-fi. It's fantasy in the vein of Final Fantasy and anime where it blends fantasy elements with modern or sci-fi tech. It's got a similar vibe to Final Fantasy XII in particular.
