Q: How do you edit your photos?
Seriously, for me editing something I’ve shot is half the fun. It’s a stage where a great amount of creativity can be exercised. e.g.:
-Do I want this in color, or black & white?
-Do I want to stick to the concept I had in mind when I shot it, or do I want to focus on a specific element of the photo and crop out the rest?
-Do I want to retain a more or less realistic representation, or do I want to go off and create a surreal color space?
Sometimes I’ll look at a photo, decide it looks decent as is, and not really do any processing. Other times, I’ll put a lot of work into editing; not necessarily as a means of correction but more of an artistic journey. I might not really know where I’m going to end up; it can be a stream of consciousness approach.
There are certainly no rules or any formula that I stick to. Each photograph is treated uniquely.
Less importantly, I use DXO Optics Pro and GIMP as my main tools. I’ve got nothing against Photoshop or Lightroom, but I’m happy with what I use.
