I'm divorced from Canon, here's one reason why.
In case anyone was wondering I am completely and truly divorced from Disney Descendants canon...Well actually I'm always divorced from canon no matter the fandom I'm writing in. But I digress.
In case you are on the fence on it...
The original cartoon 101 Dalmatians takes place in 1958 with Anita and Roger are in their late 50's, and Cruella herself is in her 60's. There was no bloody Wi-Fi even remotely close to the sixties [not to mention the internet's birthday is in 1983]. Wi-Fi didn't start appearing commercially until 1999. Are you telling me if Disney Descendants took place in 1999 with cellphones and Wi-Fi that a woman at least 101 (if she was 60 exactly in the cartoon by the way) or older has a 16-year-old kid and is locked in prison on an isle deprived of basic human needs and is human? I dare you to correct me here. Because nearly all the fairytales we see had no inkling of technology as advanced or prepared to just abandon magic and adapt to these modern conveniences. Just saying. So I am solidly 100% divorced from the concept, and I have plenty of ideas and fics I've written on this at this point that if I had a penny for each one, I'd have a couple dozen dollars or more. Now who else has some excellent examples of wonky shenanigans to share, cause I have more than a few other things that made me divorce canon. Stardust + Chaos
