Is Daredevil the marvel equivalent of Batman?
Oh goodness... such a great question!
They definitely share some surface level DNA... both have past trauma from the loss of their family members, both are dark 'vigilantes for justice,' in their own way. Batman acts the part of a playboy billionaire by day, while DareDevil is a working class guy fighting for justice by day & at night they don their alter egos. They could be '2nd cousins," some might even deem them spiritual cousins. Daredevil is more emotionally raw, where Batman tends to display a more invincible demeanor.
Some would argue, Daredevil is a more compelling character, depth wise... however, I respectfully disagree...
Batman lost his entire sense of safety & his false idea that the world was just when he lost his parents ~ so he lives by a code... No killing ~ because then he becomes the thing he hates. No guns ~ because a gun in the hands of a criminal took everything from him & Justice ~ Not vengeance (mostly) - this is what makes him both complicated & alluring at his core, because his instinct is vengeance, but his code is justice & this complexity makes him "human" to us. Finally, Protecting the innocent. Which is a favorite of mine! 🙃
Some argue Daredevil does all these things in a way and sure, he does, mostly... I just don't find him as compelling.
Yes, they are similar, and I believe Marvel even commented at some point on the parallels between Daredevil & Batman...
Both great characters but for me it's Batman, every time. 😉
