FUN STATION

Now--from this point in my life--I'm doing okay.  I have an okay job.  I finished my MA this past Fall, and I seem to be understanding more and more how the universe works.  Getting these old rolls of photographs developed now is like looking through a window into my past.  I searched for calm and warmth and meaning in all the color saturation and yellow light I could find around me.  In a way, I am still searching.

It really hurt my feelings

I work my 8 hour shift at the computer labs on Fridays this semester. I don't have any classes, but the shift starts at 8 AM. I'm the guy that swipes cards, but other than that I have complete computer/internet freedom. I brought my laptop. My brother still had my card so I was relying on pocket money today; ten bucks. I had a hot chocolate for breakfast. At work, I managed to finish my French homework, watch a Super Mario Brothers 3 Cartoon DVD (over an hour long of episodes), watch Scott Pilgrim vs the World with cast commentary, browse facebook, and other fun stuff. When I took a break for lunch, I realized there wouldn't be much that I'd be able to get with 2 dollars. I ended up getting 2 breadsticks from the on campus Papa Johns. Yeah...meals today weren't really balanced. Oh well; I finished my shift and headed to the Church because I had a meeting with a Brother (just talking). I went to the Bro's office and knocked on a door that I guessed Brother Jason would be in. In the office opposite of it, I hear Brother Clinton and he recgonized my voice. When I explained the situation, he informed me that Bro Jason was out of town for a conference. Thinking that the meeting was forgotten, I was a bit bummed but would be willing to have it on a different date. However, this left a gaping hole in my plans for what to do. Still at the church, I went to a bench and made phone calls until someone picked up. That someone was Marlon, a good friend of mine from School for Advanced Studies. We had some great conversation about how things were going, even though my phone would keep losing connection for some reason. After the phone call, I still had plenty of time until the Catholic Student Union (CSU)'s trip to Fun Station. So I decided to do something I've never done before: Go to daily mass. It was a bit different from the usual Sunday mass; it wasn't as long and went at a quicker pace. I also enjoyed the topic today about forms of prayer. After mass, friends grouped and discussed. I met my friend Stefan and we talked about our days. When I mentioned Bro. Jason, he suggested that maybe I got the wrong date. [Verification later in the day would prove that I was off by seven days]. I also talked to my buddy, Scott, who was wondering where the nearest Subway was. I told him the two closest ones and offered to join him on his trip, since I was still planless for the next hour. Also on the trip was Ken. It wasn't really much of a trip; it was 5 minutes, but the discussions were fun. I was not planning on ordering anything because I was saving my remaining $5 for the Fun Station ticket. Ken was a real pal, though, and was able to spot me a 1/2 footlong after I casually explained my previous meals. I definitely owe him one. We were at Subway discussing a variety of topics, mostly inspired by CNN playing in the background. An hour went by in an instant and Scott pointed out the time. He got us back to the church exactly on time. I asked him if he could be my ride to and from Fun Station and he said sure. One organizing and car ride later, we arrive at our location. I definitely wanted to check out laser tag, but ended going to go karts first. I watched the first round and drove on the second one. After I noticed a lot of cars being faster than me, I started driving sillier; swerving just to swerve and stuff. After a while I got cold from the breeze of driving, but I had a lot of fun. I followed Ashley B. and others to the laser tag area, where we waited for another game to finish. When it was our turn, the guy who was monitoring it said there was room for 12 more people. Luckily enough, there was exactly 12 of us CSU peoples. We picked up either red or green outfits and were off. I was on red team and was pretty terrible. But I had a great time running around and shooting. Ultimately, though, the green team won. The last thing I did took the longest: mini-putt golf. It had 16 holes and there were 6 of us playing! It took a great deal of time at each hole, but it was a lot of fun. There were a lot of hole in ones, close hole in ones, and humorous blunders of swings. This one time, on a course with a loop, I accidentally hit the ball over the bricks and nearly got it on the bottom platform...but it ended up going in the grass instead. Other highlights include Beat It coming on and me singing/dancing along to it, making a new friend name Eryn, and guys randomly dancing all over the Fun Station to 80s music. After all of the fun times, we went out separate ways. Scott took me and 3 others (the same 3 from the ride to Fun Station) to where we needed to go. On the way, we sang classic songs and had laughs. When I sang Space Jam, Scott told an awesome story about how his friend met Michael Jordan at UCF and told him he "was amazing in Space Jam!!," which made Jordan burst into laughter. I was grateful for the ride and all of the fun times that I had today!
