Digimon Beatbreak Episode 32 Review - Not All Leomons, But Always A Leomon
All the theories I had about Maki are thrown out of the window after watching this episode. She’s not related to Kanon, like I assumed and has no connections to Rose. She’s not the former Water Star either. Instead, she was someone who lived a rough life due to Digimon, but there was some good in it. Anyways, I can safely say that Maki is a beauty when both current and past versions are gorgeous as heck.
Given that Digimon started existing 21 years ago and Maki’s flashbacks took place 15 years prior to the story, this means that it had only been six years since Digimon started sprawling around the world. On top of that, 15 years ago means that Tomoro was likely an infant back then while Granit, Miharu, Makoto and those younger than 15 weren’t born yet. This would mean that Kyo hadn’t met his Digimon yet as he would be 7 back then. Still, given the reveal with Miharu, it’s crazy how she’s doing all of this while still only being a 13-year-old.
Man, the story between Maki and the late Panjyamon (Iceleomon in English, but I’ll just call him Panjyamon as the episode I watched was in Japanese) was bittersweet. Maki was clearly tired, jaded but also lonely. She was mostly just living in an empty boat full of books, making coffee and also listening to classical music. That was why she helped Panjyamon. The two formed a bond due to their lonely spirits resonating with each other. In a sense, a lot of Maki’s actions in the present was due to her fateful encounter with Panjyamon. It was due to him that she was able to open up a bar that allows humans and Digimon and she became an information broker who helps Cleaners as a form of atonement for what she couldn’t do with him before. And because Panjyamon is a Leomon variant, he had to suffer the same fate as his other predecessors in previous series. Not all Leomon, but somehow a Leomon. I honestly got emotional when Panjyamon died. While he isn’t the first Digimon to have an on-screen deletion, he is the first to see how the deletion process works in that severe damage to the Sapotama causes it.
Fumamon is quite a nefarious Digimon. The fact that he’s been around for 15 years is quite a terrifying feat. This means that Fumamon has been killing so many people and Digimon just to survive all this time. And the fact that he teamed up with GIFT to make ends meet is also terrifying because that would mean he would’ve sided with any villainous organization if he wanted to.
Speaking of GIFT, the organization gets creepier each episode. Damn, I think they were the creepiest in this one as we see more people a part of the cult—there were even children! The leader being Miharu was quite obvious as she is a creepy girl, I did NOT expect her partner to be Mephismon. Like, girl, you are EVIL! She really is giving off precocious evil girl genius vibes—she’s like an evil hybrid of Koushiro and Hikari in a way. Also, Miharu, reconsider your thoughts on Tomoro—he didn’t even want his Digimon in the first 12 episodes of the story…
Panjyamon is voiced by Rikiya Koyama who voiced Dantemon in Appmon and Frozomon in Ghost Game. Outside of Digimon, he voiced characters like Right in Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Mozus Train in Twisted Wonderland and Shinjuro Rengoku in Demon Slayer. Fumamon is voiced by Masaya Matsukaze who voiced Reppamon’s body in Ghost Game. Outside of Digimon, he voiced characters like Protoman (Blues) in Megaman NT Warrior (Rockman.EXE), Yasuhiro Hagakure in Danganronpa and Mikami Teru in Death Note. Another character of note is the man with Miharu, named Kanchi Kishiwada. He’s voiced by Ryotaro Okiayu who voiced LordKnightmon (Crusadermon) in Frontier, Grademon in Xros Wars, and Airdramon in Ghost Game. This makes him a character of note.
I honestly can’t wait for the next episode! It’s the return of Tactics! I missed them a lot, so I’m glad they’re gonna be back! Why can’t next week come quicker? Also, the fact that the title for next week’s episode is Midsummer’s Ghost means that it’s either July or August in-universe. Let me know your thoughts on this episode!
