Nothing will ever change my mind on the fact that the βHer anger is my anger,β line should've been about fear. Not only does it make more thematic sense for both Fugo and Sheila as characters, but I generally don't believe anger is much of a defining trait for either of them, and I'm actually sick of it in Fugo's case. Heβs nowhere NEAR as angry or as IntelligentTM as ppl make him out to be, so can we PLEASE look beyond what weβre told about this character and focus on what weβre shown??
Purple Haze is more of a personification of Fugo's depression than anger, in the way its method of destruction is passive, in the way it is ignored and hated by its user, in the way it turns its attention to what it hates about itself when not directly told to attack.
And I acknowledge that this is projecting a bit but I understand using anger as a shield from your other feelings, feeding it to try to starve out the others. Depression is pitiable, but anger and violence is respected, or at least feared.
This is how I read Fugo in the manga, and I think the anime went with this interpretation and I think they did a great job.
A major theme of Vento Aureo is an exploration of depression and the different ways it manifests. Buccellati tries to detach himself from it and pretend he doesn't know about where the drugs and money are coming from and what really happened to his father, as long as he can have a quiet space for his found family, that's enough. Abbachio self-destructs. Narancia resigns himself to his fate. Mista blames supernatural forces so he doesn't have to look at himself. Giorno latches onto an ideal, a maybe unrealistic ideal, a maybe unhealthy amount.
And Fugo gets angry.
The littlest fugo, the final fugo
shitty drawings on kleki while my gf reads fugo the sock puppet. These are the sock puppet character versions btw

idk if i've mentioned it on here before but as FUGOPOSTER 100 or whatever it is i wrote in my bio (forgot) i will die on the hill that fugo should have died or something because i HATe seeing people trash on him that much. i wish he'd just died offscreen for the sake of "oh lol there's no turning away from destiny. when you gotta do the right thing you gotta do it " or whatever so that i wouldn't have to put up with seeing him get excluded in group fanart or when he is included seeing dumbass comments like "why is potential man there" and "ewww get fugo out i hate him" RGRRRRAAAAGHHH fugos is not a coward or a traitor he didn't do shit LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!!!!! why couldnt araki have done literally anything else with his charcter bro i hate being in the fugo fan trenches.
"oh fugo switched up on his day ones" "fugo knew them for ten years and still didn't go with them" (i've actually seen someone say this and when i corrected them they were like "don't kill the joke asshole" BITCH WHAT JOKE???? ARE YOU STUPID??? TEN YEARS?? FUGO WAS SIX YEARS OLD WHEN HE JOINED A GANG? DIE!!!) "ohhh if you like fugo i don't trust you because it means you're not loyal" ok so first off fugo didn't do any of that. one of the handful of things we saw this character do was push his friends out of the way thinking he would be harmed by a Stand in their stead. second of all i hate you and want you to die
it would have been better for the story and makes more sense logically im sorry. this is a gang dude. why would Mr. Paranoid (diavolo) see they were leaving someone and not immediately go "aw hell naw" and kill him because he's suspicious. or why would fugo not get yoinked for the sake of punishing bruno for defecting. fugo really just gets off scot free for not going with them. the fuck is with that. like why not kill him for narrative purposes. i know araki was going through it or whatever but cmon
idk also if he died right after they left, the members of bruno's team would have died in the order they were recruited which is kinda cool
is this good or nah
Your daily reminder that Fugo never betrayed anyone (except himself, if you subscribe to the idea that he wanted to go and just couldn't, as I do). That was a scrapped idea. Fugo, canonically, did nothing, good or bad, and while that isn't a good thing, it does not make him a traitor in any sense of the word. He was given a choice and he took the route that made sense to him (and tried to convince the others to join him, by the way!)
He wanted everyone to live, and was willing to accept it if it meant Trish had to die. His only crime was not caring enough about who would get hurt if all of them had to live. If he deserves scrutiny for anything, it's that. Not his supposed "betrayal"
