Journal Entry Dos
I remember how much the Germans love to burn things. It was another type of feeling/emotion humans have. Whether if it was good or bad was for them to decide. The Germans were burning books to celebrate Hitler’s upcoming birthday, meanwhile all of this misfortune is happening. Liesel had been given two books for Christmas from Hans which he traded cigarettes for. Before the war had broke out, Liesel would often help her foster mom out with her laundry. But lately, people haven’t been able to afford having their clothes clean due to the war. Rosa hoped that by having Liesel working more, the customers wouldn’t say anything about not being able to afford something with a little girl being there to run the businesses. I can see in Liesel’s eyes that she still has hope for her real mother. During school, the assignment she was given was to write a letter. She had written one to her mother hoping for a reply. The Social Worker who had delivered her letter had lost contact with her mom. Despite all her effort she still decided to wait. I’m not sure when or what my birthday is but the streets seem to be filled with decoration for Hitler’s birthday. I wasn’t so sure why his was more special than any other family celebration, but it maybe the fact that he had a huge influence over the German population. But a birthday doesn’t mean anything to me because well, it just means you’re one year closer to death. Which means its one closer year for me to collect your soul.
