Behold Little Alison!
Little Alison is complete! She's a representation of my interpretation of Doctor Who extended universe companion Alison Cheney, who appears in The Scream of the Shalka. She is a Jakks Pacific Juku Couture Kana head, repainted and rehaired, on a modified Noix de Rome Ninie body. I would have kept her on her original Juku Couture body, but it was all single-jointed, with an inability to sit realistically with thighs together, so I spent much time and labor splicing her onto a Ninie body for the double-ganged arms and knees, plus the realistic thigh position.
For head mods, I removed all original hair and paint, except for eyelashes. Removed a patch of skull to make hair removal easier. Carved out neck hole to fit Ninie neck. Repainted face. Made hair by gluing to scalp in spiral pattern. Made hair band from waistband of Bratz pantz.
For body mods, I wedged part of a fake plastic grape around neck prong to fit larger head opening. Painted neck and breast to roughly match head. Added upper arm swivel joints made of pins sunk into shoulders and held with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. Hot glue provided tight friction fit. Spliced original Juku Couture forearms onto Ninie forearms with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. Ripped off original squidgy feet and sank ankle stumps into plastic Barbie sneakers filled with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. Glued sneakers on ankle posts.
Also of note is that Little Alison is wearing a pair of pants that I handmade all by myself from a pattern that I reverse-engineered correctly on the first try. She was originally wearing some Bratz pantz that were the right length, but did not cover her butt. I ripped apart the pantz and reverse-engineered a pattern from them, being sure to add enough room to cover the butt, even when Little Alison was sitting down. These pants, sewn from stretchy knit, were the result.
I now know how to make two types of shirts, a collared one and a raglan sleeve on, and one type of pants. With this knowledge, I can make serviceable clothes for any of my dolls, no matter what the size. MUAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
In other words, all my dolls are going to wear novelty sock sweaters, loud printed cotton shirts, and leggings of questionable taste from now on.
First pic shows Little Alison on left and Big Alison on right. Last pic shows Little Alison on left and default Jakks Pacific Juku Couture Kana head on right.
This is my AVATAR! An early work, she is Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie! I was very proud of the way her hair came out. You can see that at the last minute i decided the red lips looked too grown and switched for dark brown.
I was no good with embroidery, so I opted for a blue heart instead of the pattern Annie has on her t-shirt. She does have a pink jacket and blue backpack now, I’ll post when I get around to taking pics
I considered auctioning her, but mother was more attatched than I am. She chills on top of my TV now.
Made using patterns found in AmiguruMe by Allison Hoffman of CraftyisCool. (Book available on Amazon)
Do you have a certain criteria for what you reblog?
it just has to be a relatively clear pic of a doll, action figure (or sometimes one of those resin character statues) that represents a person of color.
I’ve also shared stuff related to new & upcoming media (cartoon shows, movies, comic books, etc) that feature PoC protagonists, and articles related to the importance of representation. I believe these relate to my original inspiration for starting this blog, and I’d be glad to continue sharing these articles as I find them.

was just talking to my dad about the relative 'success' of my Dolls of Color blog
he seemed pretty excited about it & supportive of my ideas to increase readership. I'm not sure what I expected, but he hasn't always been excited about my interest in dolls, so his response was pretty cool, really.
on accountability
As this blog gets closer & closer to reaching its first 1,000 followers (ONLY 12 TO GO!!!), I figure this is as good a time as any to state that my goal is for this to continue to be a blog that showcases a variety of dolls of color and to be a place that that people can count on being an enjoyable (and perhaps occasionally thought-provoking) experience.
To that end, please don't be afraid to let me know if there's something problematic in a photo caption or doll description, etc., as has happened a couple of times recently. I try to make sure that descriptions and photo titles/captions use the most widely-accepted and respectful terms to appropriately describe the race or ethnic group represented by any given doll.
But I'm still human.
Which is not an excuse; it's an acknowledgement that I sometimes forget how much I don't know, and sometimes shit just gets past me because I'm excited to share a doll or something. Again, this is not intended as an attempt to make excuses, but recognition that this kind of thing happens.
If/when it does, please inbox me & let me know that a caption needs to be changed and I will update it as soon as I can.
Love & Dolls, everyone! <3
