Self compassion is hard work. Not treating yourself like shit is hard work. Allowing yourself space for a deep breath, or to acknowledge what you need in the moment-- and then letting yourself take that thing or giving it to yourself to the best of your ability-- is fucking hard.
Like, I know we all deflect with dark humor and sarcasm and memes, but if all you do is joke about your mental health, and minimize what you need, all you do is make being mean to yourself and not taking care of your basic needs into a habit. All you do is learn to be an asshole to yourself, and ignore your needs.
I try really hard to put positive things out here, because I struggle with these things, and I know I'm not the only one who needs a reminder to be nice to myself, or to take a breath, or that I'm not a bad person because I made a mistake or had some Bad Thoughts™️.
But it does not feel good when it gets made into a joke.
(I am so happy that people are getting out of it what I intended, this is not a rant for you. It's not really a rant at anyone, I just wish some of y'all knew how to accept kindness without being pithy about it)
