Lucas was super excited. He rode his bike to the Wheeler house, tossed it onto the front lawn, and rang the doorbell as fast as he could. He really needed to talk to Mike—he’d just come straight from the hospital after his latest visit with Max. And this time, things had gone differently than on all the other days before. Usually, Lucas would sit by Max’s bed, tell her about his day, hold her hand, and play music for her, without getting any kind of reaction. But today he’d gotten a reaction from her for the very first time, and he had to share that with someone. So almost on autopilot, he’d biked straight to Mike’s place to tell him the news.

Restless with excitement, Lucas shifted from one foot to the other while waiting for the door to open. But this time, it wasn’t Mrs. Wheeler standing in front of him like it usually was—instead, he found himself face to face with Jonathan Byers. The Byers were staying at Mike’s place at the moment. And of course, Lucas would’ve been just as happy to share the news with Will and Dustin as with Mike. He usually went to Mike first for the simple, practical reason that Mike lived closest.
