She should’ve probably texted before heading to his place, but she was too concerned and worried about him in light of the news of his brother’s death that she wasn’t really thinking of what’s right or not. All she knew that she needed to check up on him, hence why she’s at his door right now. “Hey, Toby...” She looks up at him when he opens the door, the sight of him devastated is awful, especially when Toby’s norm is the polar opposite. “I’m sorry I came here without telling you beforehand. I just wanted to check up on you, I can go if you’re busy—I understand.”

the  gravel  crunches  under  isla’s  sneakers  as  she  makes  her  way  toward  the  staff  cabins,  the  dusk  turning  the  sky  that  faded  shade  between  bruise-purple  and  softest  ash.  she  can  still  smell  the  lake  on  her  skin  from  earlier,  the  mossy  green  of  it  clinging  to  the  ends  of  her  hair.  everything  around  her  buzzes—cicadas,  opening  day  nerves,  the  thrill  of  being  back—and  yet,  it's  the  familiar  pull  in  her  chest  that  steadies  her,  the  knowledge  that  he’ll  be  here,  that  she’ll  find  him  exactly  where  he  always  is,  even  if  he  acts  like  he  hadn’t  been  waiting. she  rounds  the  corner  of  cabin  2,  the  screen  door  open  just  enough  to  hear  laughter  coming  from  inside,  and  then  there  he  is:  toby,  half-sprawled  on  the  bottom  bunk  like  he  owns  the  place,  even  if  someone  else’s  duffel  is  already  in  the  corner.  “ tobes , ”  she  says  by  way  of  greeting,  voice  low  and  dry  like  she’d  just  smoked  something  she  shouldn’t.  “ i  forgot  how  bad  this  place  smells  until  i  got  within  twenty  feet  of  it.  how  do  we  survive ? ” she  doesn't  wait  for  him  to  answer  before  stepping  inside,  flicking  her  sunglasses  down  from  the  top  of  her  head.  they're  oversized  and  mildly  ridiculous,  the  kind  you  wear  on  purpose  to  hide  from  the  world.  she  turns  toward  him,  deadpan.  “ be  honest.  is  it  socially  acceptable  to  wear  sunglasses  at  night ? ”  there's  something  a  little  too  jittery  in  her  smile,  something  a  little  too  bright.  maybe  he’ll  notice,  maybe  he  already  had.  

Mac: Happy Birthday, you painfully sexy man. You don’t look a day over 24. x

Archer: Chris and Izzy wouldn’t let me help with the cake because my ‘vibes were off’ but I did watch them make it and it looks delicious. So. Have a great day!
