I know Jellal is trying to save everyone. He explained that he or they in a boarder sense couldn’t keep evading from Acno without destroying the world. He can’t think of any other way than using timeslapse to defeat Acno.
I respect his bravery, his honorable acts. But still I don’t like what he does. He can’t always burden everything on his shoulders alone. He needs to know when to step back and to try to find other ways when the road is blocked. He needs to think about the people he loves and love him when he risks his life.
He’s not a DS. No one enhances DS magic on him. He can’t and should not be able to push Acno, the strongest dragon who can eat magic, into the timeslapse. I’m already seeing bashing coming at his way. But all people should blame should be the same problem on consistency and unreliable power level in Mashima’s writing which I feel very tired at repeating.
He is really this character who always gives me mixed feeling when he gets the chance to fight and to do something significant. I want to see him fight but hate to see him risking his life unnecessarily. Mashima never gets pass the chance of threatening his life when he shows up. I know the chance of Mashima really killing him off is really low, but it’s still really frustrating to see him attempting self-sacrifice for some supposedly better goods.
Erza shouldn’t have to worry for his life. It hurt to see Erza’s very real fear in losing him.
From a shipping point of view, I really think angst is not needed for Jerza development, not anymore. Angst can be left to those who still needs a push to see what they need and how they feel. Jellal and Erza have clear feelings for each other and knows what they want in their relationship. The only thing they need for development is closure on Jellal’s part so that they can move forward to a happy future together. I really see this angst Mashima set up can do little to their development, and is another thing which annoys me.
