frozenshore replied to your post âPEMDASâ
Ummmmm cite your sources please
http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2013/03/facebook_math_problem_why_pemdas_doesn_t_always_give_a_clear_answer.html
Way 1 ( P E M D A S) " If it âfeelsâ natural to you that implied multiplication takes precedence over division (whether because itâs next to a parentheses or not), then you would get 6 á 2(1+2) = 6 á (2(3)) = 6 á 6 = 1. That answer would be incorrect on most U.S. standardized tests, but you wouldnât necessarily be wrong. (Insert rant against standardized tests here.) You would just be in the minority about which convention youâre using. â
Way 2 ( P E MD AS) âYou can alternatively apply PEMDAS as schools do today: Simplify everything inside the parentheses first, then exponents, then all multiplication and division from left to right in the order both operations appear, then all addition and subtraction from left to right in the order both operations appear. (A better acronym would be PEMA, actually, to make it clear that multiplication and division are done together, and addition and subtraction are done together.) By that convention, 6 á 2(1+2) = 6 á 2 Ă (1+2) = 6 á 2 Ă 3 = 3 Ă 3 = 9. If you were taking the ACT, SAT, or GRE (which would probably use parentheses to eliminate confusion), this method would yield the correct answer. â
Doing it âWay 1âł is the old way of doing it. The âlazyâ way now as many schools donât want to teach the new way ( Way 2 ) of doing it.Â
Both answers are right. âWay 1Ⲡwas correct on my math exams. âWay 1Ⲡwas wrong on my ACT. âWay 2Ⲡwas wrong on my math exams. âWay 2Ⲡwas correct on my ACT. (As the ACT updates to new ways of teaching, schools donât always do that).Â
I would like to thank all of my followers because Y'all make me so happy and I don't even know you. I need you to know that I LOVE messages ANON or not so feel free to talk to me :)
Once you get this you have to say five nice things you like about yourself publicly. Spread the self love and make yourself feel better, as we all need sometimes! Then, send it to ten of your favourite followers. You are all wonderful (â âżâ âż)
Ooh! <3 *thinks really really hard*Â
Ok, well,
1) I have the ability to laugh at my own pain, mortification, etc. It comes in handy when I sometimes just really want to hide under a rock.
2) Iâll treat everyone fairly. My motto ever since I was 7, has been, âtreat everyone the way you want to be treatedâ, thus, I avoid being a dickbag to anyone and everyone.
3) Iâm a good friend and even a better daughter. I never ask for anything and will always give my loved ones everything they ask for without any hesitation.Â
4) Iâm fairly strong. Not in a physical sense (although I am hella proud of my muscles) but more of in a mental, emotional sense. There are times when I break down and cry but within minutes I can pull myself together and continue on. People have tried to kick me down but I always get back up because IÂ know that Iâm worth more.Â
5) I like my smile. Itâs taken me a while to get to that point but Iâm finally glad that I stopped trying to hide my smile. I like how my dimples deepen when I smile really big and how Iâm just generally always bubbly. It has worked wonders on my confidence.
