Frozen Solace || Jaxx and Kahlan
It had been a difficult day. Â Given that it was one of the few days on which there was no quidditch practice, Kahlan should have seen it coming. Â It had started in Charms class. Â Charms was something that she was normally very good at, even if it wasn't her best subject. Â Of course, Kahlan was good at all her classes. Â But then, she did sometimes have difficulty with charms, as her previous . . . teachers had never really seen it fit to teach her some of them, despite their simplicity. Â And of course the result of that was that she sometimes failed to know about some of the easiest charms, spells that her classmates had learned as early as first and second year. Â It had just been a stupid cheering charm. Â Useless, she thought, and apparently taught early on in Hogwarts education, for she had never heard of it. Â The professor had mentioned it with regards to a new spell, which you could not do without first knowing the cheering charm, so of course, Kahlan had been at a loss. Â The other students had noticed her lack of attempts to try the new spell, and they'd noticed again when she searched vainly through her 5th year spellbook in search of the cheering charm. Â Eventually she'd had to ask the professor to show it to her in front of the entire class, admitting her ignorance. Â Not a great day.
Kahlan wasn't stupid. Â She really wasn't. Â She was actually quite brilliant, she knew, and in several of her subjects, she was leaps and bounds ahead of the other students thanks to experience, but she had also missed the early education that they'd received, and as a result, she sometimes looked stupid, and she despised it. Â Kahlan was smart, and she wanted to be respected that way. Â After charms class, the day had only got worse. Â Most of her other classes had been boring, and of course she also managed to run into one of currently least favorite people, Delphine, despite the lack of quidditch practice. Â After that pleasant encounter, Kahlan had been desperate to escape the constant surroundings of other people. Â She wandered around the school until she had found her way through a tangled maze of stairways and hallways to an empty wing of the castle. Â Breathing a sigh of relief, she collapsed into the doorway of an empty-looking room, only to find that someone was already inside. Â "Oh."
