Summary:

Bruce died and Cass couldn’t breathe for a week. She didn’t want to believe it at first, didn’t want to even think of it. She knew Bruce and she knew death and they didn’t fit together, not at all. He was gone, gone like Brenda and Bludhaven, gone like Steph had been. Like Faizul. She felt it inside of her, so keenly it was as if she had killed him by her own hand. She could search the whole earth and not find a trace of him. It was too much. The pressure was squeezing her insides, left her constantly choking for air. She couldn’t stop dry heaving. Or: Bruce is dead. Instead of leaving, Cass stays in Gotham. She learns a thing or two about being Batman.

Summary:

The lab technicians had definitely touched him in the process of hooking him into the machines. But that was so long ago, and he couldn’t remember any of it. Maybe none of it was even real. The first few moments of Bart’s rebirth were cold. The wires dropped from his head, un-inserting themselves like limp spaghetti noodles. The blinding white of the Earthgov lab blared suddenly across his vision, replacing the green countryside he’d been in just seconds before. Bart had crumpled, a marionette without his strings, curling in on himself on the floor of the tank. Or: an exploration of one Bartholomew Allen during Impulse 1995.

OH BOY! im gonna give a couple options based on what you're looking for:

do you like silver age comics? do you want to read the og FF run just to get a feel for who these characters were originally? do you like deeply tragic characters? do you love going crazy about the relationship between an artist and his work? you should read Fantastic Four #51 "This Man, This Monster". thinking about this issue and jack kirby makes me feel sick. it's beautiful. it holds up. you can feel the love that went into making this issue while youre reading it, and that's something that is so special and an experience that is hard to replicate.

in a very similar vein, if you like thinking about angst potential in terms of a character grappling with the weight of how dangerous their power is as well as the weight of their presence as a celebrity: look into Fantastic Four #285. it's crucial johnny reading

do you like tongue in cheek meta about comics? do you like fun low-stakes introductions to superheroes and their relationships to the people they protect? do you like mark waid? well look no further than Fantastic Four (1998) #60! it's the start to waid's run and a very very solid stand alone issue that will leave you wanting more of the FF i promise!

do you want reed richards waxing poetic about his wife for 32 pages while dying of essentially super cancer? Read Fantastic Four (2013) #4! It's actually a pretty solid introduction to reed and sue and their relationship in my humble opinion. In Fact ☝️if you are willing to make a little bit of a bigger commitment Fraction's run as a whole is not a bad starting place, especially for modern FF. it's only 13 issue's long and it's really fun! it's a lot of space time adventures and the focus is, of course, on the family!

It also turns out nothing stays buried forever, no matter how much he wishes it could.

hiiii linden
