Howdy! 9, 10, and 16 for Daisies, please and thank you
Thank you, Jen!!
9) In growing our own daisies, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?
I really love the scene in the first chapter when they sit outside, eating homemade cinnamon rolls, and Trixie tells Katya about her horrible hookup. That to me was showing how much they immediately clicked and it’s supposed to read like UNHhhh. That was a year before actual Trixie talked about a hookup where the dude started crying, so I’m prophetic, y’all are welcome
10) In daisies, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?
I originally played around with the idea of having them get married and maybe have kids, but the further I got into the story the more I realized that that’s not what their story is about. Instead it begins and ends with Trixie alone in her house, except at the end she’s not really alone anymore. She’s in the home she shares with the love of her life, where they host parties for their friends, where Trixie’s sister comes to stay when she’s in town. She still has her space, but she also has a whole lot of love in her life.
16) How did you come up with the idea for daisies?
It was inspired by trixie saying one day she wants to quit drag, move to the woods, and write songs for women to sing. I was also extremely lonely at the time, so I put Trixie through that, except Katya literally rings her doorbell and helps her rejoin life at her own pace and on her own terms.
