You can create an activity on Frolyc to send pictures to student app. Students can view the picture, create annotations on it, can label it, can draw and write over it. With such an activity, you could

In Science, you could send diagrams to students for labeling.

In Engineering, you could send a machine for students to label the parts.

In Math, you could send photographs of worksheets that you already have, for them to work on.  

In ELA, ask them to label pictures using nouns and adjectives or write sentences describing the picture.

I am sure you can think of plenty more ideas!

Here are the mechanics of how to create such an activity:

1. In the authoring interface, choose “Drawing” activity type.

2. Click on the image and search for an image that you want to use. You can also upload one that you already have.

3. Write a question or prompt accompanying the picture.

4. Publish the activity to the catalog and preview it to see how it would appear in student view.

5. Here is an example of a student’s response for the example activity we just created.

Research has shown that student engagement, comprehension and retention improves significantly when using multimedia in learning.

Multiple representations of content (text, video, audio, images, interactive elements) effectively cater to the different learning styles of students.

Common Core Standards emphasize comprehension and analysis of information using different modalities.

Sign Up, activate your account from the email you are sent and Login to Frolyc

You may choose to continue with this written blog post (or) click here to watch a short video on how to assign activity from catalog.

Click on “Search Catalog”

4. You will see a catalog search and results page like below. You may enter your search criteria and search. 

5. For this post, we will simply select an activity by clicking on it. You will now see the details of the selected activity. Click on "Assign To Students".

6. When you click on "Assign To Students", you will see an assignment screen where you can choose a classroom. When a classroom is chosen, you will see the students in the classroom. You may select one or more students. Note the classroom or student access code(s) that appears alongside the names. 

You have just sent the activity to specified students to work on their iPad!

7. Now, off to your iPad. Install the latest version of the free app Activity Spot on your iPad.

8. Open the app. On the very first screen, touch “Not you? Change player”

9. On the screen that comes up, enter the access code from the assignment step above and touch OK.

This will sync student profiles and activities assigned to the students to the app. [Note:

10. Choose a student profile and play!

That’s it. Publishing & sending activities relevant to your lessons can be this simple, really!

When you assign activities on Frolyc to your students, they get published or sent to the Activity Spot iPad app.

Your students interact with the assigned activities on the app. Reports on their performance are available for you to view on the Frolyc website.

Now, here are some cool tips for you and your students on Activity Spot:

Voice-over for text

Most text boxes on Activity Spot iPad app have voice-over enabled over Wi-Fi. So, if the iPad is connected to the internet, then simply touching the text box will play the voice-over. 

This feature is especially useful for Kindergarten and 1st Grade.

Collapse-Expand Text blocks

In some activities, text content may be longer than the text block size. To read the entire text, you can touch the expand icon on the text box. This will enlarge the text box AND also play voice-over when Wi-Fi enabled.

Touching the collapse icon, will collapse the text block to its original size.
