(and, before anyone asks: I am fully aware that the associated AUs blogs for Nunton and Frolloton no longer exist, and so I did ask the creators for permission ahead of time before working on this comic in particular).

So, yeah! The redone version of “Calamus Est”.  The story closely follows the same plot I did in late 2017, but has a few big changes. The big change to note for this third page batch:

In the original comic, the relationship between Nunton and Frolloton was something akin to the strained relationship between the unnamed archdeacon and Frollo in the Disney version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (where they respected but hated each other). In this revamped version, I added some implications that Nunton and Frolloton used to be very good friends until something bad happened involving a human that caused the friendship to fall apart.

The original comic had the interactions between the AU Mettatons in an empty space, so I decided to move the battle indoor inside to a cathedral-like setting. You win an internet cookie if you recognize the fanart that the stained glass windows are based off of. :D

So, yeah! The redone version of “Calamus Est”.  The story closely follows the same plot I did in late 2017, but has a few big changes. The big change to note for this particular page batch:

In the original comic, Reed!Flowey (formely called Poaceae!Flowey) was the one who followed NIb around. This time, I had Pennie!Temmie involved in here. She doesn’t exactly do much here, but she’s there for support. 

As some of you might already know, I’ve been mirroring my comics over at SmackJeeves. It isn't a complete mirror, though: while uploading my work over at SJ, I've been re-reading my old work, and I ended up finding some issues with continuity and clarity at certain points. 

Notably, my biggest gripe was with the "Calamus Est" story, which is what I would consider the first ever webcomic I’ve done. While I am proud of it, "Calamus Est" was a spur-of-the-moment piece of work (how I dove right into that without a script or thumbnailing I have no idea). So I wanted to re-do it proper. 

Normally, it’s not good practice to redo older comics, but exceptions are sometimes allowed when it comes to issues regarding continuity and clarity. In my mind, "Calamus Est" was one of those exceptions.

So I re-wrote the entire script and started off with the thumbnailing process. The original comic was 28 pages, the new version has an additional 10 pages and expands on a bunch of stuff. Unfortunately, I got stuck with jury duty and didn’t get around to sketching pages this week, so here’s the thumbnails for the first three pages, with the new script in the background.

Also, while stuck in jury duty, I did some sketches of Frolloton (@samserve) and Nunton (@picopepin) as a refresher on how to draw these characters later.

I wanted to do a pic of some of the Mettatons from Mettaton-centric AUs, and have Nib hang out with them. For some reason or another, I ended up changing the idea and doing stained glass windows instead.

Black lineart done in Faber-Castell, coloring done with water-based brush markers and waterbrush pen. Because I used a scanner, the image is actualy very faded compared to the original illustration (real illustration is actually very color-saturated).

Don’t mind me, that comic directory page I had looked boring, so I wanted to spice it up a bit by adding covers to the stories I do. This cover is for the “Calamus Est” story (the one I did a while ago that was inspired by the mtt-world comic by lunarian-lucas).
