Or, at least, this is one of the more interesting coincidences in my comic-making process.
Years ago, when the demo of DeltaRune (Chapter 1) came out, I made a small fancomic of Nib-Mettaton going through the Dark World, and he has a small chat with Jevil at some point about pens while having an amnestic episode. In truth, when I made this page, it was poking at the context of Nib briefly forgetting who he is and what he can do with his pen.
The point being, I have Jevil specifically saying:
"For the pen is mightier than the sword. Mightier than you realize".
And obviously it's a slight nod to that well-known phrase by Edward Bulwer-Lytton.
But fast forward years later, and this tidbit was dropped in Chapter 4 about a pen being able to change fate (courtesy of MysticSlime describing it succinctly).
I guess the future chapters will eventually reveal more information on how Susie will end up wielding a fate-changing pen, but never did I think sneaking in a generic quote on a pen in my comic will tie well with DeltaRune lore. (°ロ°)
If I could go back in time, I'd tell past-self to to not make Nib's Darkworld form a hazel-eyed honey-blonde wearing a brown suit vest.
If at any point mirrors end up being significant in DeltaRune, then the "Mirrored Memory" story I wrote years ago is gonna hit me with the force of Apollo's Dodgeball.

So, recently I was looking at art techniques, tips, and tricks involved in fashion design. One of those tricks was to have pre-made fashion croquis to trace instead of just drawing a fashion croquis body from scratch.
And so I found some male fashion croquis stencils on the internet, used those as a base to make a bunch of Nib!MTT croquis, and this allowed me to speedrun dressing Nib up in all sorts of clothes.
Some choices I like, some I don't, but either way it's a good quick visualizer to see what might or might not be in Nib's closet (+2 theoretical ideas of what Nib might be wearing as royal garb).
*My Nib fashion croquis under the cut for those curious (it's probably the closest anyone will see of Nib "naked", albeit "Ken doll" naked. :P).
5x of EX form (tube arms), 5x [semi]NEO form (elbowed arms). I did also give each one different hairstyles, because, why not? ;)
Yesterday (May 16) was Nib's birthday. I can't obviously have him celebrate his birthday alone, so of course I tossed in two other Mettatons celebrating May:
Mettaton NEOdymium (left), whose birthday is May 15. @how2spell-sandwhich and @shinekittenace
MV!Mettaton (right), who comes from an AU that celebrated their anniversary on May 2. @tatatale
(I'll probably finish coloring this later, but take my lineart for now.)
On a related note: Next year, Nib is going to be 10 yrs old. That's a pretty big milestone and, if possible, I want to do something really nice for next year. I'm wondering if anyone else knows of any other AU Mettatons celebrating their birthday or AU anniversary in May? It would be fun to draw a huge group of all the Mayttatons celebrating together.
Mettaton May 2026 Promps are here (4 days earlier than last year)! Super mega special thanks to @picopepin for drawing the gorgeous calendar and coming up with so many of the prompts! Probably wouldn't have ran the event this year if not for you lol

I know been kind of silent the past few months, kinda going through a bit of a rough patch of sorts since early February.
I don't really want this blog to be devoid of relevant content, though, so I figured that I might as well share some fun doodles I did of Nib and Quill as part of a character-building roleplay game on ComicFury.
General credits to Bizfurd, Jas Lorra, Juomuuri, ExtraMagnets, TheGuest, jakedee, Paeprika, and dvogcomics (listed in order of character appearance). You can tap on the "alt" description for more detailed character credits.
In the spirit of April Fool's Day, the pictures are arranged from fun/wholesome to chaotic. I shall not provide the full context behind the images, it's more funny that way. ;D
I want to make sure you guys still have access to my comic should it ever happen that Tumblr is no longer readily accessible for whatever reason. The comic will always be accessible on ComicFury via any of the following links:
nib-mettaton.webcomic.ws (Primary Site)
nib-mettaton.thecomicseries.com
nib-mettaton.the-comic.org
nib-mettaton.thecomicstrip.org
nib-mettaton.cfw.me
comicfury.com/read/nib-mettaton/archive
All the links (except for the last one) allows for anon comments if you don't want to make a ComicFury account (note: I personally moderate anon comments before they're made public). The sites are also ad-free. I'm currently on a bit of a medical-related hiatus, but still active online, so feel free to drop a comment on the comic if you want to.
Hey, so real talk for a quick minute, with some of the iffy current regulations recently going on regarding internet accessibility, I have no idea if or how Tumblr will be impacted.
Which is why I'm reblogging this as a reminder to let you the main comic exists on the following mirrors. Hopefully with six of them in place the chances are better regarding comic access.
I've set up also something for the more sillier comics I upload, and they can be found separately at the following:
16 - The Lightning by @how2spell-sandwhich and @shinekittenace
(If you're new to this blog, the other MTT AU tarot cards can be found here: https://nib-mettaton.tumblr.com/MTT-Tarot).
Happy New Year! I spent a bit of extra time painting these cards. You might also notice the scan quality on these is better than what I had before. I got a new printer/scanner unit that is way better than the old one (I may need to rescan a lot of the older cards!).
Compared to the other cards in the past, I think this upload requires a bit more background info, because the inspiration here comes from more historical Tarot decks with less common imagery and their interpretation is more speculative than definitive. So if you feel like delving a wee bit into Tarot history...
Some Extra Info and Explanations Below the Cut:
The pattern of the Rider-Waite Smith (RWS) Tarot deck is considered the "modern standard", and a lot of modern Tarot decks follow the same pattern as RWS. But older Tarot decks were more influenced by culture and [religio]political events at the time, and thus historical decks often had different patterns with different themes and imagery.
The Captain and Bacchus as a substitute for The Priestess and the Hierophant.
In the earlier days, The Priestess (2) and The Hierophant (5) were The Popess and The Pope; religiopolitical events made Catholic imagery less favorable and so, for a time, deck makers replaced The Popess and The Pope with something else.
While some deck makers chose the analogous Juno and Jupiter (pulled from classical Roman mythology), The Captain and Bacchus appear as their substitutes in Belgian Tarot. No one exactly knows why the Belgian Tarot pattern use these substitutes, but some people theorize it was to mock religious authority, such that their interpretation may possibly be drastically different.
The Captain is a stock character pulled from theatre (Commedia dell'Arte); he isn't really a captain, he's vaingloriously exaggerating or lying about his accomplishments, but he may have dreams and/or noble intentions. For me, I've assumed the interpretation to be fake-it-till-you-make-it and the reversal of this card to be a situation where the nobleness of intentions get lost. In my card design, MTE198x EX is sitting in a literal trash heap, but for all intents and purposes, he is king of that trash heap and proud of his #1 Best Friend trophy given by Alphys and the Human, while the wreath crown is up in the sky (his dreams and intentions, and a sly nudge of the symbol of the bad ending for that AU).
Bacchus is the god of wine, it's hard not to imagine "party animal" vibes, and for me, I assume the interpretation to be a reminder to work hard but party harder, the reversal being what happens when you party too hard. I couldn't help but also give MTE198x NEO more "Terminator" vibes here as a result - cool to have a friend, not as an enemy.
I prefer reading with these cards added to the original 78, but if using as a replacement for 2 and 5, it could potentially remove any spiritual influence of readings in favor of more hedonistic ones.
Eros as a substitute for The Lovers
This happens to be more straightforward. Many of the very early Tarot decks didn't call this card "The Lovers", but "Love" or "God of Love", with some cards focused on the figure bringing couples together or just an image of Cupid entirely (such as in some Minchiate Tarot decks designs).
So, obviously, it makes sense here to feature a singular Mettaton here that's a literal Cupid.
The Ship as a substitute for The Devil
The Ship appears in place of the Devil in the Sicilian Tarot deck. It's not sure why this substitution was made, but one theory suggest that, since it is a Sicilian deck, the ship might possibly be an invading warship and was seen just as scary for an island kingdom.
Traditional interpretations for The Devil are usually something like bondage to compulsions and desires. My thought is to take The Ship as bondage to something important (as in duty-bound).
Hence me picking Coreton for this card, bound to the power of the Core, incredibly terrifying to go up against.
The Lightning as a substitute for The Tower
The Tower of the RWS deck is based on towers from other historical Tarot decks, where lightning is destroying a tower - this image usually associated with the Bible story of God striking the Tower of Babel.
But some other historical Tarot decks (such as the Belgian Tarot mentioned earlier), use an imagery of lightning hitting a tree and shocking the poor fellow under it - this image was usually associated with the Bible story of the disaster faced by Job at the hands of God. The lightning-hitting-tree motif is often captioned with "The Lightning".
Regardless on whether or not it's lightning hitting a tower or tree, either was meant to be interpreted as "punishment from God".
The original card I had for The Tower was quite neutral (a foxy boxy Mettaton skyrocketing upwards and throwing down bombs) and meant to be more of the typical meaning of upheaval associated with The Tower. Opting to have Mettaton Neodymium for The Lightning is more of a callback of the "heaven's anger" theme.
The Devil's Tower as a substitute for The Tower
This one's interesting, there's a few decks where The Tower or The Lightning is a pair card with The Devil, such that their images were less about heaven's righteous lightning fury and more like... a literal portal to hell dragging in lost souls.
The name of this imagery isn't always quite consistent. There's "The Devil's House", "Hellmouth", "[The house of the] Damned" (although ironically the Tarot de Paris lists this as "The Lightning" when it looks nothing like lightning! D:). I went with the "The Devil's Tower" here.
Hopefully you see my inspiration here: Kartarsis's open chest is reminiscent of the portal to hell, he's got his hand on that soul, that soul is doomed.
One more post before the new year - a sneak peek at the WIP MTT AU Tarot expansion pack cards
Pretty much what it says on the tin. Need to find time to paint these in one go, but I'm almost finished.
You might notice the numbers are Major Arcana duplicates instead of continuing from 21. I'll go into more details about this when I upload the finalized work, but basically these cards can replace the the same position in the Major Arcana court for standardization (78-card deck), otherwise they can be additive (non-standard 84-card deck), depending on what the deck is used for.

@picopepin I got inspired by your Mecha Tella, felt like doing a mechagumuri design of the expy.
Technically, a mechagumuri involves the pilot dressed up like their mecha, which would mean a true mechagumuri should be Froggit in a Mecha Tella wrap. But lemme dispense with the technical definition just this once, lol.

"Mettaton was her only "normal" friend, but she still strained their relationship by having him pose as a killer robot."
Imagine the sacrifices Mettaton made to obtain and maintain that body.
He's no longer called a ghost, but he's not called a monster either. He's ostensibly a TV star, and although Alphys apparently removed his functions, his mission is to be a government combat weapon designed to destroy humanity. In exchange for his attractive body, he bears the responsibility of risking his life to fight against any human invaders.
His powerful mechanical body is not invulnerable; it requires regular maintenance and battery replenishment by a government lab and Alphys. Though he made the decision to adopt his body knowing the sacrifices, he's constantly bombarded with the feeling that he can never be as independent as he wants, that he'll never have the freedom he'd hoped for. He's the leader of a human fan club, longs for a human form, and shouldn't want to fight them.
And then Alphys, who should have understood him, asks him to "pretend to be a lethal weapon and help me." He had longed to be popular, yet a member of a human fan club asks him to pretend to be a villain and help her. I wonder how disappointed he must have been in Alphys at that moment.
Still, I think Mettaton must have painfully understood Alphys's desire to "become popular." That's because he himself longed for that same thing. Even if Alphys would use him in a way that ignored his human rights, even if there was a risk that he would be destroyed by humans, he accepted to cooperate with Alphys.
Sometime back in May, I uploaded a picture of a loose MTT leathercraft. At the time, I was mulling around on what to do with it, and finally, with the date of the Undertale 10th Anniversary looming upon me, inspiration (or perhaps determination?) struck and I came up with this idea.
I did an interesting reading with my MTT Tarot card deck
Ever since I created the MTT AU Tarot deck, I've been doing reading for myself to get a sense of how the deck is like (quick disclaimer: I'm more of a secular Tarot reader). That said, I felt like doing a reading back on September 15th, the date of the 10th anniversary, and I decided to ask something more general "If you could give some advice for Undertale fans, what would you say?"
I pulled this following set, which I admit looked initially weird at first glance, until I contemplated things a bit:
I would imagine the reading might resonate with others in a different way from how I read it, but if you want to know what I gleaned from this:
Overmirror/Two of Cups: Practice love and understanding, including with yourself.
Undertomb/Nine of Swords: Things are terrible right now due to attacks from outside or sometimes even within the communities we belong to, but don't give up.
Unexpecterchanged/Knight of Coins: Make sure to be patient and think things through in a smart manner with problems that come your way.
Maybe reading bias, but it kind of does feel like the general theme of how you're supposed to play Undertale, doesn't it?

I work on Sundays, and yesterday, I was also working a weekend shift to cover for a co-worker.
I didn't see the 10th anniversary stream yesterday, and I won't be able to watch today either. Would you be so kind as to throw screenshots, video highlights, or synopses of the 10th anniversary stream in my direction?
