#frog switch

Here is the turntable for the Wario Land 4 portal. I just had to include the Frog Switch with it! Somehow, this is the second time I've modeled a circle of animated, alternating, cycling, neon colors. I've wanted to try out a portal trick like this for a long time, though it’s a bit subtle here since the portal isn’t very deep.

Not only did I recreate the Frog Switch Portal, but I also modeled the transition screen before/after levels. Here it is, as two eye-searing neon wallpapers. I know it doesn’t look like 3D, but trust me, it is indeed a 3D model.

This mysterious vortex opens up when a Frog Switch is activated. It's the only way to enter or exit the worlds inside the mysterious Golden Pyramid. I don't have much to say about this one, other than that I tried to make the color pattern and layered appearance as close to the game as possible. I've wanted to make this model for years, but never found the inspiration to do so until now. You can thank Pizza Tower's awesome soundtrack for that.

Only one week left until the fifth anniversary! This is the concept art I made for the Frog Switch from Wario Land 4. As I mentioned before, I tried to figure out how the mechanism would work. Of course, I have no experience with any kind of mechanical engineering, so feel free to laugh at my attempts to understand a fairly straight-forward device. I probably did as well as any member of the ancient(?) civilization that created the Golden Pyramid in the first place. By the way, the first drawing was made nearly a whole year before I made the model.

Here is the Frog Switch in its full-360 froggyness. I considered putting the bomb or frog blocks in the trophy, but I realized that most people would probably recognize the switch in this inactive state. Besides, when the head piece is pushed down, it just looks like a weird blue frog.

What a cute frog! Like most frogs, this frog statue activates a warp vortex when the head piece is pushed down. It also triggers a time bomb and makes Frog Blocks switch their state. I gave the blue parts a texture like lapis lazuli to make it feel like more of an ancient artifact. The bomb inside the switch was given a rough body for the same reason. I even tried to figure out how the switch mechanism could be built with ancient technology, which is why it has support rods instead of just magically floating. The Frog Blocks were thrown in as an added bonus, with the "off" state being inspired by similar blocks in Wario Land: Shake It! / The Shake Dimension.
