Ghouls with an MC with Frog Phobia
Featuring: Haru, Alan, Elias, Taiga This had me cackling đđđ
Haru
You just finished helping Haru out at Jabberwock.Â
Now all thatâs left is putting everything away into the shed.Â
You carry the buckets inside while Haru dumps the shovels into a corner.Â
Just as youâre about to set them downâŠ
Ribbit.
You freeze. You try to convince yourself itâs from outside butâŠ
Ribbit.Â
You feel chills prickle your back.Â
Slowly, like a character from a horror movie, you look behind you.Â
Two tiny eyes stare back at you.Â
You inhale. Then scream.Â
Haru whips around.
âWhat happenedâ?âÂ
He stops.Â
You are somehow on the tallest shelf.Â
Crouched into a ball. Pale as a ghost.Â
âMC? What are you doing up there?âÂ
You point with shaky hands.Â
âT-T-THERE.âÂ
Haru follows your finger. To see a tiny frog look up at him.Â
He looks back at you. At that petrified expression. And immediately bursts into laughter.Â
âGahahaha! Thereâs no way.âÂ
âHARU!âÂ
âThatâs whatâs got you all fussed up?âÂ
âS-Stop laughing!âÂ
âYou can take care of anomalous beasts but frogs are what get ya?âÂ
Another Croak.Â
You make a noise youâve never heard before.Â
Watching you tremble, he actually starts to feel bad.Â
He wipes a tear.Â
âOk, ok. Donât worry. Iâve got you.âÂ
He opens the shed door.Â
And without hesitation, he leans down and scoops the frog up with his bare hands.Â
You shut your eyes tight as he carries it outside.Â
Haru faces the frog one last time.Â
âSorry buddy. She has beef with your entire species. Try not to come here again, you hear?â
He comes back in, dusting his hands.Â
âOk, itâs gone.âÂ
You finally let out a breath. "Thank you."
Haru waits. And waits. Then looks up.Â
âYou gonna live up there forever?âÂ
You stare at the distant floor.Â
â...Can you help me down?âÂ
His grin comes back instantly.
âGahaha!â He spreads his arms out. âAlright then. Jump. Iâll catch you.âÂ
You hesitate once before hanging one foot over the edge.Â
Thenâ
Ribbit.Â
Your grip loosens. You slip and crash straight into Haru, slamming the floor with him.Â
You donât have time to register what happened. Instead, you hear footsteps. And a pair of rowdy voices.Â
The shed door bursts open.
âWe heard screamingââ
Towa and Ren stare silently. At you. On top of their captain.Â
Ren sighs.Â
âSeriously? Iâm working my ass off and you guys are doing stuff like this?âÂ
âNo, Ren. Itâs nothing like that,â you try to explain. Â
âTch. Iâm going to my room.âÂ
âRenââ Towa launches himself on top of you.Â
Haru wheezes at the bottom, squirming around.
âTowa. Get off! You're squishing me!â Â
Alan
Youâre in the midst of a mission. Searching a room for clues.Â
âFind anything yet?â Alan asks, going through the cabinets.Â
âNo. How aboutââ
Ribbit.Â
Your body stiffens.Â
Ribbit.Â
You purse your lips.Â
Slowly. As slow as you can. You look down.Â
A pair of protruding eyes look back at you.Â
A screech escapes your throat.Â
Alan turns, âWhatâ?âÂ
You jump. He catches you out of instinct. Â
And also out of instinct, your arms lock around his neck. Your legs wrap around his waist. You cling onto him like a koala.Â
Alan nearly loses his balance but he catches himself.Â
âA-Are you okay?âÂ
âNope. Nope. Absolutely not!â You point without looking. âT-T-T-Thereâs a frog right there!âÂ
As if to demonstrate, the frog hops closer. You scream again, trying to climb Alanâs body even higher.Â
He winces. His ears are hurting from all the screaming and this position is pretty awkward. But instead of setting you down. He swings your legs into his right arm and places his other hand on your back.Â
âJust a second.âÂ
He steps closer to the frog.Â
âW-What are you doing? Youâre supposed to run away!âÂ
âWe still have to investigate this room. Iâll get him out.âÂ
You yelp as your arms nearly choke Alan. âD-D-Donât let me touch the ground!âÂ
âI wonât. Close your eyes.âÂ
You do as youâre told. Squeezing your eyes shut and burying your face into his shoulder.Â
Alan nudges the door open. He uses his feet to guide the frog to the exit.Â
You shake during the whole process.Â
âWow, captain.âÂ
You crack one eye open at the familiar voice.
The frog is gone. But another menace appears.Â
Leo watches you with a playful grin.Â
âHonor roll, whatâs going on here?âÂ
You look down at your position and your face burns instantly.Â
âW-Well, there was a frog andââ
âAnd you jumped into our captain's arms?â
Leo looks at Alan with a wide grin. âAnd why are you still carrying her?âÂ
Before you can explain, Alan answers.
âItâs none of your business.âÂ
Leo whistles. Â
âScary~ Captainâs already claiming his territory.âÂ
Alan sets you down and immediately turns away.Â
â...Letâs continue investigating.âÂ
You nod.Â
Little do you know that the tips of his ears are red too.
Elias
You walk into one of the Dionysia tents. Mio clearly hasnât gotten to this one yet. It's completely run-down, like it might start crumbling at any moment.Â
You find Elias sweeping the floor.Â
âInspector. Itâs good to see you.âÂ
âHi Elias. What are you doing?âÂ
He laughs softly. âYou know me. I started cleaning and before I knew it, I was here.â He rests the broom against his shoulder. âAnd what brings you here?âÂ
âThere was a mistake on one of the reports so I need you to signââ
Ribbit.Â
Your eyes widen. Your shoulders tense.Â
Hesitantly, you glance around the room.Â
â...Elias.âÂ
âYes?âÂ
âI-Is there a frog in here, by any chance.âÂ
His brows rise.Â
âYou have good ears. Iâve been trying to find it this whole time.âÂ
You freeze. Then nervously chuckle.Â
âOh, really?âÂ
Elias watches your feet take a step backward.
âWell, it seems like youâre busy so Iâll come back another time.âÂ
âNo need.â He smiles. âPlease, bring it over.âÂ
You stare at the distance.Â
It isnât far. You can do thisâŠright?
You walk forward. Your eyes scan every corner and shadow. Â
Another step.Â
âInspector, are you alright? You look a bitâŠpale.âÂ
You gulp.Â
âYes, Iâm fine.âÂ
You take another step. And another.
âInspector.âÂ
âYes?âÂ
âDonât panic, but at your feetââÂ
That does it.Â
You scream. You jump back. And look downâŠto see nothing?
âThereâs a rusty nail.â You look at him. The corners of his lips twitch. âI was going to tell you to be careful.âÂ
You can tell heâs holding back his laugh.Â
You shove the folder into his hands.Â
âThank you for your concern. Goodbye.âÂ
You start to head to the door.Â
âAh, Inspector.â
Despite your racing heart, you donât look back.Â
âYouâre not getting me twice.âÂ
âBut,â youâre almost at the door, âright at the entrance, thereâsââ
A frog leaps out. Right in front of you.Â
Your brain, breath, and existence stop for half a second.
Youâre completely still.Â
Elias watches.Â
âInspector, is something wrong?âÂ
You turn around like a mechanical robot.Â
Then, in record speed, scurry right behind him.
You tug his sleeve.Â
âI-Iâm deathly afraid of frogs.â You swallow your pride. âPlease help me.âÂ
âPfft.â Heâs about to burst, but you glare. He covers his mouth. âIt would be my pleasure.âÂ
He takes the broom and carefully nudges the frog outside.Â
He returns. Still smiling.Â
âDonât worry Inspector. Youâre safe now.âÂ
You narrow your eyes.
âFrom the frog.â You sigh. âBut not from you.âÂ
âOuch.â But his expression stays bright.Â
Taiga
Youâre in Taigaâs room. Tasked with the impossible mission to wake him up.Â
âTaiga, we have to go.âÂ
No response. Just a groan.Â
You sigh.Â
âTaiga.âÂ
He pulls the blanket over his ears.Â
You try to pull it off of him.Â
âCome on. Itâs alreadyââ
Ribbit.
You stop.Â
The talkingâs gone. The tugging too.Â
Taiga notices the unusual silence.Â
He cracks one eye open to find youâre no longer next to the bed.Â
He scans the room.Â
Then finds you pressed into a corner. Hands over your mouth. Trying to become one with the wall.
He groggily sits up. âThe hell are you doing?â
You point. Finger trembling.Â
âF-F-F-F-â
âHuh?âÂ
You point even harder.Â
âFROG!âÂ
Taiga searches the ground.Â
A frog sits in the middle of the room. Peacefully minding its own business.Â
He stares at it. Then at you. And back at the frog.Â
Suddenly, he drops back onto the bed.Â
âGyahahahaha!â He rolls across the mattress, holding his stomach. âSeriously?âÂ
âItâs not funny!âÂ
âThis little thingâs got you scared?âÂ
âI-Itâs not little.â (It's like 3 inches)
Still grinning, he throws the blanket off and stumbles out of bed.Â
He crouches in front of the creature. Evaluating it.Â
âA kitty-cat scared of a frog?â He clicks his tongue. âWhatâs gonna happen to the food chain?âÂ
The frog hops suddenly at your direction.
A horrendous sound leaves your mouth.Â
Taiga covers his ears. Frowning.Â
âSo loud.âÂ
âTAIGA!âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âD-Do something.âÂ
He sighs. Grabs the frog without hesitation. And brings it suspiciously close to his face.Â
Your eyes widen.
âStop!âÂ
Taiga groans. âWhat now?âÂ
âDonât eat it!âÂ
âYou said to do something bout it.âÂ
âJ-Just not that.âÂ
âYou sure have a lot of complaints for a scaredy-cat.âÂ
He pokes at the frog curiously.
Uh-oh.
Slowly, a jagged smile appears on his face. The one he makes after thinking of an idea. Usually a bad one.Â
âSo I can do anything else?âÂ
He stands up like a drunkard.Â
He turns. You freeze.Â
âTaigaâŠâÂ
He takes a step toward you.
âW-What are you doing?âÂ
And another.Â
He raises the frog.Â
âWhat does it look like Iâm doing?âÂ
You back into the wall further and lift your hands as his pace quickens.Â
âStop! Donât come any closer!âÂ
Heâs still walking.Â
âStay back!âÂ
Closer.Â
âTAIGA!âÂ
You canât close your eyes. You canât run. You just await your doom.Â
âSTOPâ!â
Click.Â
He opens the window beside you and throws the frog outside.Â
You blink.Â
He wipes his hands on his pants.Â
âThere? You happy now?âÂ
Your knees immediately give out. You slide dramatically down the wall.Â
Taiga crouches down beside you.Â
Still grinning.Â
âThanks Kitty-cat.âÂ
You glare. âFor what?âÂ
âThe entertainment. Best wake-up call this week.â ____
