It was Joey and Rachel
I always thought Joey and Rachel should get together.
When they were together I thought they were better off that way. They were the two popular ones, the airheads, the hot ones (I think they’re all good looking but the show definitely portrays them as that).
Ross and Rachel were on and off too many times. They just didn’t work. They had too many opposing views and were always fighting. Ross never understood Rachel. He never saw from her point of view how badly he hurt her during the whole “we were on a break” fiasco. He was just a boy obsessed with his high school crush, and honestly it seemed like it was just for her looks. And Rachel loved being adored, she fed off of his obsession. Ross seemed mentally unstable most of the time and that’s not what Rachel needed. Ross’s biggest passion was his career and that wasn’t something that Rachel was evenly mildly interested in, or understood.
Joey was sweet and could’ve given Rachel the whole world. They clicked. They got each other. They always got along. Neither of them had any deep passions, they had a carefree way of life and just wanted to live unpredictably, spontaneously, without any plans. Rachel even said to Ross once that she didn’t want to have everything planned out for her. Joey was a struggling actor and a perfect example of someone who didn’t want to be planning for years down the road. He was confident and able to provide her stable, emotional support. When they fell for each other, it wasn’t because of some childish crush or obsession, it wasn’t because they were attracted to each other’s looks. It was because they realized how right they were for each other.
But Rachel was scared of taking the risk of pursuing Joey, after having been with Ross for so long. She didn’t give Joey a proper chance. And Joey didn’t fight for her. And because of this they lost out on their soulmates.
