This stunning antique French bed, dating to the 1860s, was crafted in the Louis XVI style and features hand-embroidered Chinese silk panels. It gained cinematic fame as Scarlett O’Hara’s bed after her marriage to Rhett Butler in 𝑮𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅. The bed went up for auction at Julien’s in 2019, fetching $51,200. According to the previous owner, it had been loaned to David O. Selznick for 𝑮𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒅 by a prominent Southern California family and later returned. However, the bed appears to have briefly returned to MGM’s prop department before making its way back to said family. It was used once more in the 1940 film 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝑻𝒐𝒐, where it appeared in the bedroom of the Duchesse de Praslin—played by Barbara O’Neil, who had portrayed Scarlett’s mother just the year before.
